CRM 2011 Install - Cannot Add New Users RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi folks

I have the release candidate of CRM 2011 installed. All looks to be ok, however I cannot add new users. Actiually I cannot add new users with a normal read\write access. I can add administrative Users that do not require a CAL.

Has anybody else come accross this.

The error message I get is odd too. 'Unable to change the Domain Login name' In fact if I download the error message I get a plain old 'Access is denied'

I have full access to the AD and the OU

Please help, this is really annoying

    Ta!

  • Hi All

I managed to make things work so in the interests of information sharing I will try to explain what I did.

I originally installed 2011 with all the required server accounts for the new and seperate roles that are in CRM 2011. However my installation did not work at all originally. So I uninstalled CRM and re-installed entering in the Network Service account (Not recommended but I wanted to see what worked)

This gave me a system with the above issue where I could not add the users.

At this point I switched off the firewall. I then ininstalled and re-installed the whole thing again with the correct accounts that I had already pre set up and it all worked and I was able to add users.

So my summation of the issue is that duh! I needed to open up the firewall properly in the first place (Although I am no infrastructure guy and therefore am not sure how this works)

I originally did not think that the firewall was the issue as my crm and sql are on one box. However I realized that the system is at some point trying to talk to the DC to validate that the service accounts have the appropriate level of priveledge.

So basically its a firewall thing.

It would be interesting to here your thoughts on this

  • Hello alanashton,

Please check if your domain admin or the user you're trying to create the other users from has privileges in SQLAccessGroup and PrivUserGroup in AD, for your organization.

  • I suggest you restart the CRM server - it fixed the problem for me. I had exactly the same issue - immediately after installing CRM 2011 I tried to add new users, and I would get an error message saying that I cannot change domain login name.

I guess it's a matter of permissions not being quite right after initial install, but having everything reload the perms fixed everything.

    Kind regards,

      Tomasz

  • In our case it the CRM server restart helped. We were not able to create new users in CRM just after installing the CRM 2011 and were getting error as "You cannot change the Domain logon name of this user"

And when we restarted the server, it did not give that error at all.

    Thanks.
