Backup tp External Hard Drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • In OneCare I want to designate the external hard drive as my backup destination. Program allows me to go to CD/DVD destination or Network Centralized Backup. How to change it?

  • Do you already have an existing backup plan that you've been using?
Is the external drive plugged into the PC and can you access it in Windows Explorer? If it is available to Windows Explorer, then it should be visible to OneCare.
Note, however, that if the drive is connected via eSATA (external SATA) it is considered an "internal" drive by OneCare and not a removable drive, as that's the way the driver identifies itself to Windows. In that case, it is not a valid destination for OneCare backup.

  • My external drive is connected with a usb connection--what does that make it to the machine?  Will one care recognize it--it hasn't yet and backup has not been preformed.  What should I do?  Thank you

If it is recognized by Windows and is an external USB with no conflicting software taking ownership of the drive, it should see the drive and make it an available location for backup.
If you already configured backup, you need to reset the plan:
