A copy of existing SQL server instancperforming poorly. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a service hosted on SQL server(Inst_prod). We recently took a backup of all the service-related user dbs and restored onto our test server(Inst_test). since then, we've been doing the same process: import data and manipulating data (same data-set) on both the servers in parallel.

Both prod and test server has the same config - win 2012R2, sql 2008R2, same amt of RAM, same DB settings, same amt of disk space etc.

our Imports are running okay and its performance is on par. but when it comes to manipulations (inside SQL) the performance is very poor on the test server. The same process which takes about 20 - 30 mins in the prod server takes about 1.5 - 2 hrs in the test server.

What should we check in the test server what is causing this huge delay?

Note: All the objects used in the process are either tempdb objects or objects created during the process temporarily in stageDB which is being dropped after the manipulations are over.
