Popup saying this computer is not running genuine Windows after new hard drive install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had a hard drive failure and subsequently am getting a popup window saying this computer is not running Genuine Windows. I re-entered the product key and that entry passed the microsoft testing and said it was genuine but I still am getting the same popup.

  • After spending more than 8 hours online with Microsoft level 2 support I finally decided to do a fresh reinstall of Windows 7. I was then able to get the updates to work after doing the phone validation. I now have two hard drives on my system. One with all my years of data and installs which won't get updates and one with a fresh install that updates. I'm in the process of transferring those files I need on the one drive to the other. Very frustrating but I'm not willing to invest any more time on this issue. I truly appreciate all the suggestions offered. If anyone comes up with something else, let me know and I'll give it a try.

    Thanks to all!

  • This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

    Installing the Intel Drivers

try downloading and installing them from here -

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=17882

    (IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

  • I downloaded and installed the Intel Drivers and then rebooted twice but the issue still exists. Here is the subsequent MGADiag report.

  • Hi Carey,

I have an Inspiron 560 not an Inspiron 580. When I went to install these drivers I got a message that my sytem did support these drivers so I was reluctant to install them.

  • This should be the correct driver software package: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=TRFXM

  • Thanks Carey!

I installed the drivers in that package but still have the same issue. My current diagnostic file is below:

  • There are several files tempered. Please install the update in the following link to repair these files.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033

If the update discovers a tampered file, it tries to restore the file. This restore may require a restart. If this update cannot restore the tampered files, it will direct you more information on the Internet.

After installation, please post MGAdiag report again.

  • Jerry,

    Try this:

    Open Device Manager

Click on the Disk Drives icon to expand the branch

Uninstall all entries for the Hard Drive(s). DO NOT delete the drivers if offered!.

Also uninstall any entries showing a red X or a yellow triangle

Come out of Device Manager, and reboot twice.

See if that does the trick

  • Tried this but issue still remains. Thanks for your suggestion though!
