Regarding WHS/corrupting files and Symantec Ghost RRS feed

  • Question

I was recently attempting to help a friend out who may have a failing hard drive.  Prior to doing anything, I wanted to salvage the data that is on the drive.  I attempted to do so by creating a ghost image and saving the image files on a WHS box.  The creation of the image appears to create successfully (I did an integrity check on the created image.)  However, when attempting to view the created image with Ghost Explorer, I can't view the contents of the created image. Therefore, I wouldn't be able to pull any needed files out of the image if needed.

To eliminate the idea of the problem being strictly WHS, I was going to attempt creating the image to a non-WHS box.

I saw the article at the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946676/en-us?spid=12624  and how it stated "A home server is under an extreme load."  The image was several gigs.  So, that's why I'm wondering if the problem may be linked to what is described in the article.

    Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
