Another Vista RTM Activation Key RRS feed

  • Question

  • Like the other postings, I started having issues the week of Christmas with my Vista Ultimate x86 edition. I used the downloaded RTM software on the connect site, used the activation key from Microsoft as part of the Vista Technical beta. No hardware changes have been made, I activated with in 30 days and I have had to call in to activate as recently as a week ago Sunday. That activation only lasted a week before asking to activate again

    Programs installed

    Avast Anti Virus Home edition

    TheaterTek 2.4

  • You'll need to press Enter or click Next after entering your key, but don't click Activate Windows online now.  Let me know if that resolves your issue.  Thank you!

  • There is no enter or next on the Windows Activation pop up box to activate.

When I went to the on line site to validate my copy of the software, I have listed the reaponse below and the error code.

The validation service is unable to determine whether this copy of Windows Vista is genuine

Please let us know ASAP if this is a recurring issue. I'll contact you by email if there is.

From what it sounds like what has happened, you accidentally attempted to activate with the Default Vista Ultimate key (unfortunatley, when you press "activate windows online now" it uses the default product key). You have to activate and use your own product key by pressing "Next".

    Thanks,

  • Sorry, but you cannot use a Windows Vista beta product key with the released (RTM) version of Windows Vista.  The released version requires a new product key meant specifically for the released version of Vista.  You can purchase the released version of Windows Vista on January 30th from you favorite store that sells computer software.

  • The key used was an Ultimate RTM key provided to Vista technical beta tester's at the conclusion the Vista trial.

Thanks for participating in the VTB! (Vista Technical Beta). As the Diagnostics output shows, you're using an RTM key (woohoo!)

When you are activating, are you pressing "Activate Windows Online Now" or "Next"? What is the message that comes up when you use "Next"?

(It should NOT require telephone activation if this is on the original hardware the copy of Vista was FIRST installed on).

  • Over the internet

I am pressing "Activate Windows online now", I have tried also typing in the key again as well as calling in manually in the last 10 days. The problem just keeps poping up.

Message displayed after Activate Windows online now

The product key you used is already in use. To activate  Windows you will need to purchase another Windows Vista Ultimate product key.

This is the only computer that I have Vista running on or have ever installed. No hardware changes have been done as stated before that would require re-activation. This is a strange one, I hope Microsoft can patch this so I won't have to re-image.

    Thanks for the help

  • Please visit the Microsoft Connect web site and retrieve your "Windows Vista RTM Ultimate Key".  Copy the product key, then paste it in the "Change Product Key" window, then click "Next".  If this does not work, then download the "Windows Vista Final English DVD x86 image" and reinstall Windows Vista.

  • I just rebooted into the Admin account after visting the validation web site. Windows came back up and performed a succesful actvation over the internet. Thank you for all great suggestions on how to recover my Ultimate copy. I will monitor this issue and will report any future issues if they re-appear.

Thank You Carey, Phil and the Vista Validation team

  • Well I spoke too soon,

Vista says I have 3 days to activate. Vista did a driver upgrade thru Windows update after the posting of the sucessful activation. The reboot on the driver install then showed I had to activate one again. The enter button was pushed and once again the key is in use. I did also try to copy the RTM key on the connect site as suggested by Carey.

Please use the email address already posted
