CRM 4 Outlook on TS 2008

Question
-
Hi,
I have tried searching with little or no success. Has anyone got any material or would appreciate any advise in carrying out a deployment of CRM v4 for Outlook on terminal server 2008. As an example, there are 100 users only which 10 users should be able to see/view the CRM options for outlook and is hidden from the rest of the users. A user can potentially jump onto any server when logging on, however the CRM server will be hosted on a dedicated Hyper V box. Any pointers to the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

The Outlook add-in and clusttered Terminal Services don't work very well together. The problem is that the sync engine requires a "primary" machine and with an environment like this, you don't have a primary machine.

And to add to Matt's comment, the IFD deployment is really what you would do if you have remote users or a traditional VPN.
TS is problematic for many technical reasons.Friday, October 30, 2009 10:06 PMModerator -

Have no alternative but to pursue TS - as its part of the current infrastructure :(- Proposed as answer by Curt Spanburgh MVP ModeratorMVP, Moderator Thursday, November 12, 2009 2:10 PM

Hi,
Curt and Matt are correct - TS is problematic and can be a bit glitchy. But if you are stuck with it below are some tips we learned. We do have a 150 user shop that has been running in TS since late 2008. Here are a few items that helped a ton:
a. See if you can setup affinity so users log in to the same terminal services server instead of bouncing around to various servers.
b. If you are using IFD, make sure all IEs are configured to cache encrypted files, and the URL is in trusted zone.
c. Don't clear IE cache when users disconnect
d. There is one registry key we used to reduce memory consumption. I think this is now included in UR 6 or 7 ??? Sorry - could not find my email.
e. Open a ticket with Microsoft right away for assistance.
