My Pet Peeves with the MS Web based Forums RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • As an long time customer of MS and user of the Microsoft Newsgroups for a long time,  I am not one those happy campers that is being forced to use the MS FORUMS and/or Bridge.   Nonetheless, it is what it is, and I am accept it.   But I do have some major UI and Ergonomics issues with the web interface which I hope can be addressed by MS.

    1. Please provide PURE TEXT input and display for messages.  The HTML aspect of it is really bad and if we follow Pareto's Principle, 80% of the people will use TEXT 80% of the time.   When in HTML mode,  cut/pasting destroyed the HTML style and attribute forcing you to correct the text by going into HTML editor mode.   This can be an user setting option.
    2. Offer an option to "Find the Forum" of interest.  This would idea for migration purposes for people who for many years were using the Microsoft Newsgroups and not have a "disconnect" with where to migrate to for related forums.   For example, I still do a lot of MFC work, so this option on the web page "Find Related Forum by NewsGroup name:"   would quickly take him to the MFC/ATL online forum.  This could be a option that may last 1-2 years until the migration is over or less people need to.    But this could also be extended by Technology,  "Find Forum by Software Language, Technology: " etc.      The main point is that people will find forums which best suit their current work

    3. Finally,  can the MSFT or moderators please stop being so eager to move messages?   A few times already I have posted message in forums and they were moved based on a highly subjective decision.  In one case, other people said "Why did you move it?" when in case it was in the proper forum.   Overall, I am losing track of it because I am using the NNTP Bridge and it wasn't for "My Threads"  I would completely have lost track of them.  I understand many messages are posted in the wrong place, but I think until people get use to the MS Forums,  the MSFT or Moderators should post a response and suggestion, but not be so eager to moving them.

Of the above three, the PURE TEXT option is my #1 request.  It is very hard to input a message when I am cutting and pasting notes and the fonts change on you.

    Thanks

  • See how the fonts change above?   That is what I am talking about. Its a bug but the fix should include an user option to use pure text, that would make it easy for the web software to deal with.

Agree 100%. Both the main editor and the code editor are a disaster, resulting in many totally messed-up posts. It is very rare that HTML adds anything useful.
