Live Mesh is cool RRS feed

  • Question

  • My windows live gadget for sidebar works on live mesh. I am on my live mesh desktop listening to pandora radio station. Good job
    microsoft

    To reproduce this:

Go to pandora website. Download the new windows vista radio gadget for windows sidebar. Save the download to your desktop. Then assuming that your folders are syncronized with the mesh desktop, go to your mesh desktop. Open the folder from there. Install the gadget on your live mesh desktop, from inside the folder. Microsoft will install a plugin. Then the radio will play from your mesh

You need to hack the HTML. Its a bit fiddly so I wouldn't bother. If I were you I'd just upload it to http://skydrive.live.com and post a link to it on here.

  • Hi,
No such thing as a dumb question. Its fairly self-explanatory though - just go to the site, go into your public folders and click "Add file" (or maybe "Upload file").

Or if you wouldn't mind you could just email it to me???? jamie[AT]jamie[DASH]thomson[DOT]net

  • I just tried this and it didn't work. I double-clicked on a gadget file at www.mesh.com and it installed it on my computer. Are you *sure* its running on Live Desktop?

I don't see any gadget running there. I;m afraid I think you're rather confused.

  • Hi Jamie,

I think that you are rude, and very close minded, for a developer.

Really? Well you're entitled to your opinion, no matter how quick you are to jump to it.

I hope I'm wrong, gadgets on Lvie Desktop would be cool. i say again though - there's nothing on the 3 screenshots that exhibits what you described.

  • Diana,

I have taken a look at the pictures you posted - I see the gadget file sitting in a folder on your mesh desktop, but I don't see it running in/on your Mesh Desktop?  Where is the plug-in that you said got installed - can you show a picture of that?

Just as a side note I don't understand why you are saying Jamie is rude or close minded - he was simply trying to understand what was going on - which included him explaining rather politely how to upload things to Skydrive.

  • Hi Jamie,

I am sorry for getting upset, and saying what I posted. I am not confused. I am not a developer, just a beta tester. I tryed an experiment with mesh, and it worked.

    No probs.

Can you post something that actually shows it working though? I understood from what you said above that the gadget is running INSIDE live desktop but your screenshots don't show that.

  • Any chance we are talking about the developer preview (I know that quite a large number of MSPs had access to that, and the keys are flowing freely now). It doesn't seem to be (since I see no "Apps" button) - but go figure.

Otherwise, it's pretty easy to get something akin to a gadget running on the Live Desktop using the Apps interface - I'm actually a little surprised that it hasn't been cut over to general use yet, since the extra features are very cool.

  • Maybe this picture?

This would be a cool feature if it's legit.

Aha, yes, that has appeared since last week. It certainly LOOKS legit. I wonder if anyone from Microsoft can confirm or deny this?

  • Hi All,

Jammie was right. The gadget opened and was controlable from the mesh desktop, but because in services, meshservice, I have the mesh set to interact with the desktop, the sound part was coming from my pc. The two were working together. It would be a nice feature if mesh had it's own sound, separate from the pc desktop.
