The only way that test takers can know when Microsoft is planning to retire an exam is by:
- Looking at an exam's description to see if it has a retirement date.
- Looking at the official list of exams that will soon be retired or are already retired.
Here are the retirement lists:

There are six (6) SQL Server 2008 exams available. Some exams overlap, allowing you to earn multiple certifications!
BTW - Microsoft never upgraded their SQL Server 2008 exams to SQL Server 2008
