Sound Driver RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to install a weather monitoring program on my WHS computer - however it fails to run due to "Cannot create DirectSound object!" is there a way around this as I realize that sound is disabled in WHS.  I would like to have this program running on the WHS as this computer will be the only one running 24hrs.

The weather station is a Bios and the program is Weather Analyzer - both poorly designed but do their job (IN XP!)

    Solved ! - added  /admin to rdp

  • Hello,
in Windows Server 2003 sound support is disabled by default.
However, often you can enable this by logging on locally and open Services in Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools.
Here you will find the service Windows Audio.
Double click it, change it's startup type to Automatic and click Start.
Take care as well for the soundcard driver - not each card brings a driver, which works in Windows Server 2003.
You may also have to do the following:
    Click Start/Run and type dxdiag.
On the Sound tab adjust the Basic acceleration to the maximum.

Be aware, that these configuration changes are not supported and may decrease the stability of your server.

    Best greetings from Germany
