Just bought One Care at Fry's, and the product key isn't being excepted RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have stayed up all night trying to get my sons  computer updated before he leaves town in a few hours. I bought this copy of One Care within the week at Fry's Electronics, and the 25 item long product key does not work. I have tried at least 10 times, and two other people have double checked my typing. I tried this service when it first started, and it was a total waste of time. A friend of mine told me to give One Care another chance, and they appear to be unable to make a number in a package match a number in a computer. This is a very time sensitive problem, but I couldn't even find a number I could call for paid assistance. I was going to revert to the 90 day trial, but your site wouldn't let me download because of the copy of the software I put on the computer hours ago. Now I've read that I should go back in and remove the program and then reinstall the 90 day sample. Then I would need to chase down assistance with my bad program, and then install a correct version, and I really need to put a program on his computer now.

  • Scott, I'm sorry to read that you may have a bad product key in hand from your purchase at Fry's. There should, however, be no need to uninstall OneCare from the PC as it will continue to be in trial mode if you did not complete activation. The PC will have the latest available version of OneCare installed, no matter if you installed from CD or from http://onecare.live.com

You can send your son off with OneCare in trial mode and then contact support to get this resolved. If he returns within 90 days, you can activate for him with your LiveID and the product key. If he won't return, you can activate with the product key (assuming that you are advised to exchange the retail copy or are given a new key to use if they confirm that the one you have is invalid) at http://onecare.live.com/activate and then have him activate with that LiveID (and password) wherever he is.
