I cannot get this printer installed on my WHS.  I downloaded the .exe file from canon that included all of their drivers for windows (of course it was only 98, ME, XP, and Vista).  When I run this file on the WHS, i get an error saying that the OS is not supported.  How did I get this printer working if I don't have drivers that install?

  • You can try running the installer in compatibility mode. I would also check the Canon web site and make sure that the package you're trying to install is the printer driver only. You don't want to install the additional applications on the server, and you typically can't use the multifunction capabilities of a MF printer when you share it the way you want to (i.e. no faxing, no scanning).

  • You can extract and install the files manually. Run the Canon installer on an XP machine, and copy the C:\Program Files\CanonBJ\IJPrinter\Canon MP600 folder to somewhere on your WHS machine (you will need to show hidden files and folders to see the folder on the XP machine). This folder contains the MP600 drivers.  Then do a manual driver driver install on WHS and point to that folder.

If you need step by step instructions I can provide them with a bit more time...

The exe does not extract the files to a specific folder.  It looks like I am going to have go find them somewhere on the computer.  Where should I look?

  • Sorry about that, I wasn't very clear. What you need to do is run the MP600 driver installer to completion on an XP machine. The installer creates the C:\Program Files\CanonBJ\IJPrinter\Canon MP600 folder, which contains the drivers.
