From where did you purchase this license? How was it packaged? As you've found out, the Key has been blocked by MS - presumably either for abuse, or because the Key has been tagged as Returned or Lost.Darin will probably be able to tell you when he gets into the office tomorrow - but knowing the name of your vendor will allow us to assess things in the meantime.

It was purchased from Digital River. Apparently there was a similar problem with this last September.

Yes, there was (was it that long ago?)Contact DR yourself, and explain the problem - this may be a residual from that incident although I doubt it).As I say, Darin may be able to provide further details of reasons tomorrow.

I have checked the key and it is showing as Blocked (as of 4/17/2012) with a reason: Returned. This indicated that a product, which included this key, was Returned. When this occurs, Microsoft is notified of the return and the key is then Blocked from further use.
I also recommend that you contact Digital River. Either the product was returned by you or another user of the computer or Digital River may have made a mistake of some sort. In either case, Digital River would be the one to sort it out. Also, since a Return is usually associated with a Refund, you may want to confirm with your banking records that the price of the software was refunded or not.
Thank you,
Darin MS

After 2 weeks of repeatedly contacting the MS online store I have admitted defeat. These people must be the worst to deal with and MS should have a long hard look at this service.
The background to the story was that I purchased win7 pro through their itsnotcheating program back in 2010. On the day I ordered the price was $49. The transaction appeared to go through but I received no confirmation email. The next day I checked back on the site and the price had increased to $119! and still no confirmation. I tried to repurchase again but it said I couldn't because I had already purchased my 1 copy allowed by the program. After about 2 months and many phone calls and emails they managed to clear my previous transaction and told me to purchase win7 at $119 and they would refund the difference. I duly purchased the software. Only problem they refunded the whole amount. Almost 2 years later they notice and invalidate the key.
Now after 2 weeks of more phone calls and emails they have said, well too much time has passed, tough luck! Thanks a lot MS!
Fortunately for me my uni is now selling copies of win7 to staff for less now. So I'm still ahead. But really MS online store really needs to lift its game.
