New hleofx quotes programme FT and yahoo2 RRS feed

• Question

• I installed the new November 2017 programme on my No 1 computer on windows 10 and it continues to work well using Money QFE. It is a great improvement not having to use a mapper file and not having to change the headers on the CVS downloads.

My problem is on my second computer which is identical also running windows 10 and money QFE. On this computer, I have just downloaded the same Hleofx build and money shows dummy having, say, 25 data points to read but when the import window opens it is empty of data and, worse, the dialogue asks me if the first of the data points is a new investment. So it is seeing the data points from somewhere else than the window that updated the dummy account. If I say the point is in my portfolio, which it is, the scroll-down menu does not include it. If I say it is a new investment, it says that there is already an investment of that name and code, so change the name/ code.

Does anyone have an idea what is going wrong? I have reinstalled money QFE and run quick repair on the money file.

• One quick test, generate the OFX files from both computer (then select 'Save As')

* Compare those two files

If they are the same, then problem likely on the msmoney side. If the two OFX files are different, then we need to figure out why they are different.

Usually, when you get a prompt like that, it mean a security in msmoney is of one type (STOCK, for example), and the security as generated in the OFX file is of a different type (MFUND, Mutual Fund, for example)

• Sorry but I am a beginner. I have the 2 OFX files on the 2 computers. How do I view them? They have a money logo attached and seem to require money to open them. If I do that I will be importing the file into the programme. I had the impression that you wanted me to just view the content, perhaps by printing them.

If I look et the downloaded quotes in the tool window, they are identical as are the converted quotes

• Right-click the file and select "Open With". Find and select Notepad. This will open the file in a text reader which will allow you to see the content.

Look for the ticker symbol that Money asked you to associate with an existing investment. Do the tags above and below the symbol have the word "STOCKINFO" or "MFINFO" or something else? What type of investment is that symbol in your Money file (stock, mutual fund, other)? Do both files have the same "INFO" type around that ticker?

I have done what you suggested but cannot find the security information on the OFX file. The two files for the two different computers seem to be identical save for the amount of units and something called

<MKTVAL>0.765765</MKTVAL which has a different number on the file that does not upload, vis 0.46002

The start of both files does say SECURITY="none"

this is the file that works. It is very long so I have not included the one that does not, nor the middle of the file as it just repeats the processes for each ticker. If you tell me what part of it to send you I will extract the part.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<?OFX OFXHEADER="200" VERSION="200" SECURITY="NONE" OLDFILEUID="NONE" NEWFILEUID="NONE"?>

• I am not following the main point of the thread, but I looked through the OFX. I noticed that the time part of the date-times is ....000000.000[+1:BST].

If generating dates in Hleofx or other program, it is normally best to make the time section always be ....120000.000. That way if the time zone on the computer is different from the timezone used, the date is never changed by Money. The OFX specifications have a blurb on that and suggest the 1200 times:

========================

3.2.9.1 Basic Format
Note: Developers should consider the possibility of a date change due to timezone conversion.
A datetime value in the GMT timezone with a time of 12:00:00 (noon) would be converted to
another time on the same date in every timezone. For example, 199812251200 remains
Christmas Day in every timezone.

• Thanks for this but I am just using the new hleofx program and did not write it.

Are you saying that everyone should put in the date offset to a figure different from the default which is zero. If that is what I should do, we are on GMT+1 at the moment being British summer time and the tool seems to run on EDT which is GMT-4. There does not seem to be a place for changing the time, just the date. Will this be a solution for my problem?

My problem is with the interface with money. On one computer money accepts the input but on the other, the download field is blank. The pop up asks me if the first investment in the download is in the portfolio. If I say yes, it is missing from the drop down menu that allows the program to proceed, although the investment is actually already there in the portfolio. If I say no, it says it cannot accept the download as another investment with the same name and money code already exists.

As far as I can see the money program is the same on both PCs and the tool is just a copy of the one that is working on the other PC. I have reloaded money QFE and repaired the money file on the rogue computer.

• You have the following in the file:

<POSMF>
as of date based on closing price</MEMO>
</SECINFO>
<MFTYPE>OPENEND</MFTYPE>
</MFINFO>

The tags don't match up - it looks like there is data missing in between. This is not a valid OFX file. The Investment Position List tag (<INVPOSLIST>) does not have it's matching end tag, and there is no start of the Security List - only the end tag (</SECLIST>).

Again, please post which Investment Money is asking you to either create or match - but which you do not see in the dropdown list. Also list whether that investment is a Stock, Mutual Fund, Bond, or Other. Is it listed the same in both files?

The investment identifier for each item in the OFX file can be found within the <SECID> </SECID> section - example below:

<SECID>
<UNIQUEID>VUSA:LSE</UNIQUEID>
<UNIQUEIDTYPE>TICKER</UNIQUEIDTYPE>
</SECID>
<SECNAME>Vanguard S&P 500 UCITS ETF</SECNAME>

You may also find a <SECNAME> with the name of the investment in the <SECLIST> section where you find the <MFINFO> tags.

• Richard,

If you could, please send me the two files via email hleofxquotes at gmail dot com. I will take a look.

I was figuring the creator of hleofxquotes, Hung Le, would be reading. :-) So that is why I posted... your posting the OFX file gave the reference. I should have explicitly said that.

And that anomaly that Bob Smiley identified will be useful to Hung Le if he makes a mod for you and others.

Richard, I don't expect you to edit your OFX files yourself. And the time thing will usually not affect you as it sits. But lets say you produce the OFX file, summer time ends, and then you are on GMT+0. The dates will be modified by Money to be for the previous day. There is a very small chance of that. Somebody in the US who processes that same file will always see the date as the day before what it should be.

There are various ways to deal with it, but the simplest is for the developer to always specify a time as noon, and Money will never change the date on you. A wrong thing for the developer to do is to just enter the date as yyyymmdd. That is the same as yyyymmdd000000.000.

I double check (using ft.com) and the generated OFX I have does not have the mis-matched, so I am going to assume that the error is due to cut-and-paste.

I believe all those symbols are for mutual fund. Are they of type mutual fund in the second computer (one not working)? The OFX should have them tagged as mutual fund, you can double check by looking for the word "treated" in the generated OFX. For example

<!--Ticker from quote source is: GB00B850BN01-->
<!--DTASOF local time is Fri Apr 06 00:00:00 BST 2018-->
<!--Security is treated as Mutual Fund-->

I sent the two emails on sunday to the hleofxquotes email address that you gave me. Did they arrive and have you seen them?

• I don't have access to HLE, and he doesn't have my email address, but he should be able to help you. One of the possibilities is that, on the computer that is not allowing you to select the correct Mutual Fund from the dropdown, you have the wrong version of the HLEOFXQuotes.jar file and need to get the latest version. His initial version that had Yahoo2, incorrectly identified Mutual Funds as stocks.

Try downloading the latest file from his site and see if that fixes the issue.

I am perplexed as you suggested that I should send the data to that address. Also, the current version is working on my other computer. however, I will try the version you suggest and let you know. Is there another address I can use to give you the ihformation?

No reason to be perplexed. The email address that you are sending to is not Bob. That is the email for hleofxquotes developer.

There is good news and bad news. The good news is that the programme is now working on both computers. The bad news is that I do not know why and it was not because of the new version of the tool.

As they are at disparate locations, I cannot run my PCs side by side. I needed to update the price data on the one that was not working as I was at its location today. So, I reverted to the old programme that uploads a CSV file exported from FT.com. The version number I ran was 20111104_41. It worked with no issues.

I had taken a copy of the mymoney file before running the old tool so I reverted to that file then ran the new tool version 20180103_172 that was previously not working but was already on the computer. It worked perfectly.

I will update to the latest versions of the new tools on both computers in due course, but presumably not the test version listed just a couple of days ago, unless you advise otherwise.

I can only assume that some process in Money was modified by the way the old programme operated and that made money receptive to the new import. The mymoney file was just a copy of the one that did not run when I previously tried. Can you throw any light on what happened. I would be interested to know.

The plot thickens. I have updated the tool from 20180103_172 to 0180212_193 on my principal computer and that computer no longer updates. It is now exhibiting all the problems I outlined on the other computer. It sticks on the first ticker, legal and general index fund and the field of data behind is blank of any other data from the download. The L&G window again says is this a new fund, when it isn't and the drop down menu does not include the L&G fund which is already in the portfolio.

• In your Money file, go to the investment account where you hold the Mutual Fund "Sarasin Global Higher Dividend Fund (Class P Inc)" and right-click a transaction. Select "Go to Investment ....". On the left menu, click Details. What does the Investment Type show? You can also get there by using the Portfolio View, instead of the investment account.

Please report back that information.

Sarasin Global Higher Dividend Fund Class P Income Shares is the title and the invest type is Managed Fund.

It is a longstanding investment which has two entries in the portfolio under separate broker accounts plus, ofcourse, the dummy accounts

The  ticker is GB00B850BN01

This was not the fund that was causing the problem, it was the first one being downloaded which was Legal and General

It shows

Type      Managed Fund

Ticker     GB0001036531

Which seems fine to me

You did not show that security in your OFX postings above. You did show

<SECNAME>Vanguard S&P 500 UCITS ETF</SECNAME>, which I presume is working right for you. How does that

Legal & General UK Index Trust R Acc. show in your OFX file?

• Weekend comes so I finally have time to look closely into this. I tried to read through all the message but I am bit unclear on current state. Is the following correct?

* You are now using version 0180212_193

* Both computers are now NOT working: when import money is prompting you asking if XYZ is a new investment even though you know XYZ is an existing investment (and it does show as a non-selectable entry in the drop down list).

* You mention version is Money QFE

* The first entry that exhibit this bad behavior is GB0001036531 (Legal & General UK Index Trust R Acc.)

Of which

* Money shows as Type: Managed Fund

* And the OFX file has that fund data inside a pair of tag <POSMF></POSMF>

Given the facts so far, I am puzzle of why it does not work. In particular, we have matching Money type and generate OFX (that treat the security in question as Mutual Fund)

Questions

* Money QFE, is it Money UK 2005?

* I am not familiar with the term "Managed Fund". I am assuming that is equivalent to the US Mutual Fund?

To duplicate your environment, I will have to create a VM, find a UK version of Windows, install Money UK. This will take time.

I am asking if some of our UK users who is using hleofxquotes can help me out by

* creating a money test file

* add GB0001036531 with type Managed Fund

* Use hleofxquotes to query just ONE symbol GB0001036531

* Import and see if the problem can be duplicated.

Richard, if you are comfortable to try the above test, you could give that a go also.

• * I am not familiar with the term "Managed Fund". I am assuming that is equivalent to the US Mutual Fund?

I confirm that.

My notes say UK Money types: Bond, Cash Unit Trust (Money Market) , Index, Managed Fund (mutual fund), Other,
Savings Bond, and Stocks (or is it Shares?) ... I am not sure about "shares/stocks". I am thinking Quicken used "shares" and Money "Stocks". I could be wrong on that.

• Hi

What you have written is mostly correct. The differences are

!. Both computers were running 20180103_172. Computer 1 was downloading but computer 2 was not

2. I made computer 2 work by reinstalling 0111104_41 and downloaded from FT.com a CSV file. The import went without a hitch

3. I tried computer 2 again with 20180103_172 which was still on the PC unchanged in any way and it worked this time. The process of using a CSV file and ome likely a mapper file must have changed a setting in Money in such a way that it would now accept an input from 20180103_172

4. With both computers now working on 20180103_172, I decided to update, on your suggestion, to 0180212193. I did that on computer 1, the one that had always been working, and it no longer works. It now has all the symptoms that computer 2 exhibited. It stops downloading on data point 1 which is L&G, the window behind the pop-up is empty and the message is the same as before. L&G etc is a new investment but if I confirm this, the import is rejected as money puts out a window saying another investment with the same name a ticker already exists. If I say, the investment is in the portfolio, it is not present in the drop down menu.

5. The QFE programme is the 2005 UK version but I think containing a patch. It is the one available to download from the community and has been working without issue for many years

6.As per the comment from another contributor, a managed fund is what American's call a mutual fund

7. I would be most grateful if you would try to simulate the problem but wonder if it would be better to obtain the full OFX files and screen shots from hleofxquortes or I could send a copy to you, but cannot do so through this site as it will not accept screen shots or large files.

As a parting shot, I wonder if the place to start looking is actually in money. I seem to recall that one has to import one data point for a new investment via dummy and register it as a new investment before one can get a drop down menu to register a purchase. If one does it the other way round and one registers the purchase then tries to import updated prices with all past tools the pop up says that it is a new investment but the name and ticker already exists but the drop down menu does not include the purchase you have already input!

Further to my long reply I have checked the money download site and have cut and pasted below the download name

{Microsoft Money 2005-QFE2} UK version

There is a separate Australian version as well. The UK version was the final one Microsoft issued although it did updates for The USA until 2007

• hleofxquotes is the person who wrote the quote download program. He is the best person to talk to about his program and what might be the problem. Have you tried his suggestion to JUST download the single quote?

If Money reports that the ticker is a Managed Fund, and the OFX file is using the POSMF and MFINFO tags, then they should match. I don't have any other suggestions.
