  • Actually, in some cases, the System Error 3 (and system error 2) can be caused by an over zealous Registry Cleaner program that has deleted the Registry Entry that tells Vista where the slsvc file is located.

If the error message is "System Error 3, The system cannot find the path specified." or "System Error 2, The system cannot find the file specified": Go to the main Vista Validation forum page http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/threads/ , look in the announcement section and follow the steps found in thread "Fix for ‘Software Licensing service Has Stopped’ on some Vista 64bit systems"

Unfortunately System Error 3 is a rare error, and we've had little experience of it here. The few times it has come up, we've had to refer the poster back to WGA support for assistance.
Having said that, try the following first.
Please try the below steps to recreate the Store with the correct data.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate.

Then go to the Validation site, and attempt to validate Windows
    www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate

Run a new MGADiag report, and post back
