Workgroup in Vail

Question
-
Hi,
I want to know what the value of a workgroup name is, when you cannot change it??. To give you a background for my question: I have 2 xp, one Vista and two W7 machines in my homenetwork. For that reason, I have made it all into a small homenet (based on XP terms) When I deploy the V2 WHS and cannot change the workgroup name, can I still live within my (XPstyle) homenet and do the backups to my "New" homeserver. What other implication does it have, when the Homeserver uses a Workgroup name different to my actual homenet??
thanks for sheding light into this one..
Erik

Machines in your workgroup will automatically appear in your "Network Neighborhood" when they're on your local subnet. Other than that, workgroup has no real effect.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)- Proposed as answer by kariya21Moderator Tuesday, June 15, 2010 3:38 AM

The solution thread that Tom8445 mentions has a discussion, but no workaround. This thread https://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer/feedback/details/555692/cannot-change-workgroup-name-after-fresh-install as of 8/20/2010 has two workarounds. The first has mixed results, is complicated, and may hose your (beta) server. The second workaround is performed during Install, is relatively easy, and should work fine. Of course, YMMV.
