My Money file is on my hard disk (C), and I used to back up the Money file on an external USB device, but recently decided to keep my backups offline for security reasons. I then found that I could not even load the Money program unless the USB
device was connected.
In the Money program backup settings I have changed the backup file location to my fixed disk (C) but I still need to connect the USB before I can start Money. The program is obviously still trying to put a lock on the USB device because if I attempt
to select the option to Safely Remove Hardware (USB) I receive a message saying that the device is in use (until I close Money).
I have a synched copy of the Money file on my laptop which I can use without any problem and without having the USB device connected. I have tried repairing the Money file which does not help.
How can I remove Money's obsession with the redundant USB disk?
If your *.mny file is on the USB drive, that USB drive will have to be connected. That device will need to stay connected until you close Money and give Money some time to get everything situated. Where do you intend to put the *.mny file?
When you say security, are you trying to prevent loss of data, or are you trying to make the data inaccessible by somebody else?
