Best practice for a exiting employee RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are using Project Server 2007. What is the best practice for when an employee leaves the company. We recently have a project manager who was assigned as the owner to many projects in addition to having tasks on multiple projects leave the company. Their account has been deactivated but what is the best way to reassign all of their incomplete tasks. I had their manager ask me to assign him all open tasks and project ownerships the leaving employee had. If there any easy way to do this or must this be done on a task by task basis(there are alot).

  • 1) Let the resource be in Inactive state, as you might need to track the assignment where actuals have been already entered,

    2) For replacing the incomplete assignments in project use the reosurce replace functionality, this will replace all the incomplete
assignments in one go for a project, but will not hamper the assignment where actuals have been already recorded
        refer to the link http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/remove-or-replace-a-resource-assignment-HA010379413.aspx#BM3

     3) Change the ownership to the new PM

  • right, but this person has tasks on 50 different projects. is there a way to replace him all on projects within project server, or must i do this one at a time.

  • You could open all the projects and use the Resource Subsitution Wizard to do all the replacements.

    Cheers!
