Windows search Can it be removed? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can I uninstall windows search without fear of breaking something?

Also i'm sure there are some unneeded services running, is there a list floating around of what can be safely turned off

    Thanks

  • If fyou remove Windows Search, you remove the ability to search your shares using the Remote Access web site, and you remove the ability for Windows Home Server to integrate into the Windows 7 Explorer search functionality.

As for unneeded services, while there may be some, they won't be the "heavy hitters" as far as CPU and i/o are concerned. I would recommend leaving things be in that area. Windows Home Server isn't, after all, a desktop OS.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • No W7 computers here

I closed search down and it seems a lot of disk thrashing went away
