I think that there is a sense to receive certificates on 4.0. I am going to make so. It seems to me that materials not strongly differ. I can tell about it by experience of certification of a SQL Server 2005 and a SQL Server 2008.

Couldn't agree more. I have .Net 3.5 certification myself and I would recommend you the .net 4.0 certification also.
The 3.5 certification does not have an inactive date yet, but it will be closer than .net 4.0 date for sure.
However, I am sure that if you choose the .net 3.5 approach, you would only need to take 1 more exam to upgrade to .net 4. certification.

When we take .net 4.0 exam , Do we need to take 70-536 (Microsoft .NET Framework - Application Development Foundation) exam also. As it is mandatory to take 70-536 when we take .net 2.0 or net 3.5 certification .
Any help is really appreciated.
