  • Question

  • I had a copy of Office 2003 on this machine when I got it from the office 4 years ago.

I recently installed Office 2007 over it.

I cannot get updates, because it says that the key for Office 2003 is not valid.

I cannot uninstall Office 2003, it says the installation source is not available.

I have a valid key for it.

How do I get rid of it?

  • Hello stuck in windows,

I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing and would like to provide available options we have for assisting customers to address issues they are currently experiencing. Attached below is a Knowledge Base (KB) article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301. This will allow you to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and explain detailed information. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and uninstall all Microsoft Office programs 2003 and below (NOT 2007 OFFICE) on your computer.  If you are still having issues with validation after this point then please run the MGA diagnostic tool and post the results as outlined here: http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2170295&SiteID=25

  • Okay, I've done that.

I also deleted the program directory.

So why am I still getting prompts to update office 2003 from the windows update site, and how do I make it stop?  Why is it still being detected?

  • Hello stuck in windows,

Do you see anything related to the 2003 version of Office in Add/Remove Programs?  If not I would suggest you completely uninstall everything related to Office and then reinstall using your copy of the 2007 Office Suite.  If you are still having this issue after you attempt this then I would suggest creating a support request at https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?c1=509&gprid=9860 and they will be able to further assist you with the issues you are having uninstalling the Office Suite.
