Purchased a Product Key for win 7 Ultimate 32-bit, activates then later fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just purchased a product key after running a trial installation of windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. When I enter the key, it activates, and it stays so for varying lengths of time, after which it reverts to non-genuine status. At the same time as this occurred, I received the Windows 7 Build 7601 black desktop message, in case that matters. Diagnostic output follows:

In that case, I have no idea what it going on – I suggest that you contact WGA support for assistance.
WGA Support can be found here-
    North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4

    Outside North America:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!

  • The default temporary product key for Windows 7 Ultimate is XXXXX-XXXXX- TMVMJ-BBMRX-3MBMV which is what is shown in your MGA report.  Please enter your purchased product key, rerun the MGA Report and post the results.

After validating through the OS and at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate , here's the diagnostic output:

    Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0):
    -----------------------------------------
    Windows Validation Data-->

    Validation Code: 0
    Cached Online Validation Code: 0x0

    Windows OS version: 6.1.7601.2.00010100.1.0.001

That all looks fine to me – it’s properly activated and now validated.
You say that it repeatedly seems to de-activate?
From your earlier post, the problem seems to be a result of losing the Key from the registry – which begs the question of whether you are using some kind of Registry ‘Cleaner’. If that’s the case, then stop using it :)
ALL Registry ’Cleaners’ are snake-oil products, and should be avoided.
If you get the notification again, please run another MGADiag report while the notification is showing, and post back to this thread, and we can compare the results.

  • Well that seems like good news. I was walking my mom through a clean-up on her PC, so I installed and ran spybot, ad-aware, and Hijack This. I also run CCleaner from time to time.

  • Just to clarify, none of those apps are running now, so nothing should be accessing the registry, but now that you mention it, that's exactly the kind of behavior the OS is showing. I'm going to reboot and see if that resets matters again.

Again, the proper Product Key appears to have got ‘lost in the post’ – the Key is the Default one, here.
Please reboot, this time to a ‘Clean Boot’, and try activating again – once activated, boot a gain to a Clean Boot, and see if the Key holds.
If it does, then it means that some program that is launching at startup is preventing changes to the registry, or reverting changes.

In that case, I have no idea what it going on – I suggest that you contact WGA support for assistance.
WGA Support can be found here-
    North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4

    Outside North America:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!
