BIOS Password/Windows Password

  I've just had my laptop stolen and Im determined to make my next machine useless to the thief should it happen again by buying Lojack etc.  I also think I need to add a BIOS password to my new machine is this different to the windows password and if so will I need to put in 2 passwords to my new machine on start up any help would be much appreciated.
