  • Stumbled across how to get Microsoft ICE and Microsoft Photostory installed in Windows 8.1. Main reason they will not install with Windows 8 is that you can't install the Microsoft  *.msi files as an Administrator. Thus, the error is caused by not having administrative rights to access other files.

However, I now have both Microsoft ICE and Photostory installed, thanks to Softonic.

    Get ICE from http://microsoft-image-composite-editor-64bits.en.softonic.com/

Download the file. Run it, then decline all the garbage that is offered, until the program is downloads and installs.

    Get Photostory from http://microsoft-photo-story.en.softonic.com/

Download the file. Run it, decline all the garbage that is offered, and then the program downloads and installs
