Unable to Connect to Internet to Complete Installation RRS feed

  • On March 6, 2007, Microsoft released a utility to resolve this problem without the need for creating and running that code. Instructions for use and the download can be found here:




    This tool is used to fix issues you might have while installing Windows Live OneCare. If your Windows Live OneCare application comes up with a red action item asking you to make sure you have internet connectivity and a button for ‘Complete Installation’ but the red action item remains even when you have internet connection, then running this tool may solve the issue.


    (1)Click on the link to run the tool
    (2)A dialog will pop up explaining that the tool will attempt to repair issues with your system that cuased Windows Live OneCare to fail installation
    (3)Click continue
    (4)You will then need to Accept the Terms of Use to run the tool
    (5)Click start and the tool will run
    (6)You will then be asked to reboot your machine before attempting to install Windows Live OneCare again.

    Note: you may need to download the tool to your desktop and then run it as administrator by right clicking on the tool icon and selecting "Run as administrator" if you are using Windows Vista.

    System Requirements

    • Supported Operating Systems: Windows Vista; Windows Vista Business; Windows Vista Enterprise; Windows Vista Home Basic; Windows Vista Home Premium; Windows Vista Starter; Windows Vista Ultimate; Windows XP; Windows XP Home Edition ; Windows XP Media Center Edition
    (1) Microsoft Windows XP (Home Edition, Professional, Media Center Edition, or Tablet PC Edition) with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate). Note that the x64-based versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista are not currently supported in Windows Live OneCare.
    (2) Windows Internet Explorer 6 or 7 for Windows XP SP2 or higher
    (3) PC with 300 MHz or faster CPU speed
    (4) 256 MB of RAM and 600 MB of available hard disk space
    (5) 56 kbps or faster Internet connection (broadband recommended)
