spam on email contacts

  All of a sudden many of my email contacts emails are being labeled SPAM.  they come into my inbox but are hidden.  when i search on their email name, the email that was sent to me comes up with "spam" being the first word on the subject lline.  when i call them up, I can read, reply, forward the email without issues.  I just can't see it when it comes in, hence I don't know an email was sent to me,  nor can I eliminate the issue.  any idea what's going on?
