Non-genuine XP, Windows 2000 COA??? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows validation has indicated that I have a non-genuine version of XP professional installed. This is not a complete shock, as I bought my Toshiba laptop used at a computer fair. The thing is, my computer does have what seems to be a genuine COA, but it's the purple one that says "Windows 2000 Professional 1-2CPU". So I assume that the computer originally came with Windows 2000 and then a pirated copy of XP was installed later. I've read through all of the forums, and I'm still a little bit confused as to my options. Can I use the Product Key on my COA, or do I have to repurchase a full copy of Windows XP? Can I take advantage of the $149 dollar offer for a new product key?

    Thanks very much!
