WGA fails after repair install with SP3 over SP2 (wrong WGA version?) RRS feed

  • Question

  • System infected with sypware.  Clean it, then a repair install with SP3 OEM disk over SP2.  Windows update will not work now because tries to install WGA and fails.  When I separately download WGA indicated (KB892130) and try to run it, results says it is the wrong version for SP3.  How do I get past this so I can update?

    Thanks.

  • Hello Geeks4Hire,

I would recommend to completely reinstall Windows XP and install all service packs as well as security updates. Many professionals recommed this proceedure which will also give you a peace of mind. Right now you can't be totally sure if there are any bits left behind causing your existing problem.

    Take care,

    Stephen
