Project Server 2010 Configuration Error - Cannot Create Sample Data (Again) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

    I'm having issues installing Project Server 2010. After the installation, I run the Product Configuration, and receive the "Cannot Create Sample Data" error that other forum member are reporting. Is there any solution to this problem other than reinstalling all the farm? If I uninstall the Projetc Server App, and run the Configuration Wizard, it finishes OK and without errors, but if I install again the app, it fails always at step 8.

  • Hello,

    Does your local admin user has the proper rights on SQL server as Sysadmin ? You can try installing with the Account from which you installed SharePoint.

  • Hi,

    What is the specific error you are seeing? Is there an error in the ULS logs or the configuration wizard log?

  • hello,

    Please read the below support article & verify the MSDTC settings:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916894

    To resolve this issue, configure the security settings for the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC) to use the Allow Remote Clients setting. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
    2. In the left pane of the Component Services snap-in, expand Component Services, and then expand Computers.
    3. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    4. Click the MSDTC tab, and then click Security Configuration under Transaction Configuration.
    5. Under Security Settings, click to select the Network DTC Access check box, if it is not already selected. Then, click to select the Allow Remote Clients check box
    6. Click OK.
    7. When you receive the message that states that the DTC service will be stopped and restarted, click Yes to confirm that you want to continue.
    8. Click OK when you receive the message that the DTC service was restarted.
    9. Click OK.

    Hope that helps.

  • These are the errors from the ULS, my locale is spanish, sorry :(

    07/20/2011 00:05:53  14  ERR                Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Referencia a objeto no establecida como instancia de un objeto.

       en Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.EvalModeProvisionTask.Run()
       en Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.TaskThread.ExecuteTask()

    07/20/2011 00:05:53  4  ERR              Error al crear datos de ejemplo.
    Se inició una excepción de tipo System.NullReferenceException. Información adicional de la excepción: Referencia a objeto no establecida como instancia de un objeto.
    System.NullReferenceException: Referencia a objeto no establecida como instancia de un objeto.

       en Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.EvalModeProvisionTask.Run()
       en Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.TaskThread.ExecuteTask()

    To summarize, Sharepoint Product Config is throwing a System.NullreferenceException and a "Error creating Sample Data" error. I'm installing Project Server with a local admin user who is also a Farm Administrator, but not the user who installed sharepoint. Could it be that the issue?

    Thanks a lot!

  • Mm... maybe my local admin is not a Sysadmin in Sql Server. I'll try that. Thanks a lot Amit. I'll report back when I repeat the installation.

    Thanks!
