Forest functional level RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have single domain running in mixed mode, because we still have one NT 4 domain controller. So I can not raise domain functional level to 2003 native. And now it seems that I can not install Office Communications server 2007 because of that. I only have have domain one forest. I don't need universal groups. Is there any way to install Office Communications server into AD domain that is running in mixed mode?

  • Hi peltsi,

OCS 2007 can only be installed in native mode, and 2003 native mode is recommended.

    From the OCS Planning guide:

All domains in which you deploy Office Communications Server are using Windows 2000 native mode. You cannot deploy Office Communications Server in a mixed mode domain. Microsoft Windows Server® 2003 native mode is strongly recommended.

  • You can install OCS in a dedicated resource forest.  We have a guide in the OCS Resource Kit that goes over how to install OCS in a muli-forest environment.
