*Help* Advice regarding gaining the MCDST qualification RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I'm a 23 year old currently studying IT at home on my own. I gained the CompTia+ certificate earlier this year and the MCDST exam is the next inline on my way to a MCSE. I'm currently studying for the MCDST exam 70-271. I'm using one particular book for this, "Supporting Users and Troubleshooting a Microsoft Windows XP operating system"

I'm just about through the book, but i am finding pretty hard to take in and process, also i find it tricky to remember everything mentioned and the ways in which to solve problems without the book.

I'm unsure whether i just don't get on with the book and the book is a tough one to use, or if my techniques are unsuited to it.

The disc of a limited version of XP professional has expired and my XP home edition obviously doesnt have all the features of XP pro, so i can't practice and run through every topic in the book. Is there anyway of practising on XP pro without buying it?

I guess what i'm asking is, *Is there anyone out there with general advice on how to study IT, any tricks that help remember things when using a book like the one i've got.
*Is there any particular advice for this exam? Any vital things that i must know without fail for the exam?
                                               * Any other books that may suit me better?
                                              * Which is the best way to remember Acronyms or pathways or concepts?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Feel at a dead end and need something to get my enthusiasm back in place.

  • It is pretty hard for you to take in and process ,i think when you read through the book for the second time ,you will find the knowledge is not too hard or ,easy ,just because you are strange to this .there is no need to remember everything, more important ,you should have a good understand .

,MS press book is best materials for us to study the theory. Besides ,it is a need to do enough practice which you can not skip .
Tips on your 70-271 preparation ,which is just for reference .

    hope it useful
