vista installed automatic updates, and now tells me it is not validated. can now do nothing more than go on internet RRS feed

  •

the other evening automatic updates were installed by vista, which i did not ask to happen and i don't object to, but now it is preventing my family from doing anything on our home computer. we bought it new and the software came already installed.

i am absolutely livid that this has happened and just want to fix this for my disabled mother and younger brother. i am aware that many people dislike vista and how it operates, and this makes me agree with these people whole heartedly. why, after purchasing the software in the price with the computer will it then ask to validate it or even purchase some other thing to fix it. i feel cheated and very angry. i have very important school work on this computer that i need to access soon. a way to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

once logging in, it asks to learn online at windows geniune where it says that it cannot be validated, and i don't know whether this is to do with the updates. it's either that or closing that window that just brings it back to the logging in screen. it's very frustrating.

thanks very much for any help. i want this resolved as soon as possible.

Same here. Automatic updates ruined Vista. Ran the MGA Diagnostic Tool and the result: invalid license. Nice. My HP Pavilion desktop came with Vista installed. I bought it NEW on January 29, 2008. In my case: START button does not work, no desktop, can not print, and automatically logs me off after about one hour. HP does not know how to fix it. Microsoft e-mailed me instructions where I have to use the START button, which does not work. Called Microsoft customer service and was told that for $59.95 a technician could fix this issue over the phone. Nice warranty. I did not ask for the update but got it anyway with bad results.

    Any ideas?????

  • Exactly the same problem. Microsoft falsely accuses me of having an illegal copy and makes my computer non-functional but then offers a tech support to fix it for $59.99. EXTORTION! Just look around this forum, there are too many of us with the same problem and yet Microsoft chooses to stick it's head in the sand. Pathetic.
