Hello ocrunk,
The Product Key that came on the eMachine computer is an OEM and the software you borrowed from your Family member is Retail. OEM Keys will not work in Retail software. So while you were installing the Retail software, you may have entered the OEM Product Key but it was not accepted. Since no acceptable Product Key was entered, Vista used it's own Keyless Install key. The keyless Install key is basicaly a Trial version key. It allows you to use Windows for 30 days but can not be activated.
At this point, you need an OEM copy of Windows. If you can not find an OEM Copy of Windows, contact the manufacturer of the computer for a replacment copy of the Windows Recovery Software that originally came with the computer.
Thank you,
