Answers

  • Yes it works great, just as good as my WHSv1 with WMP11 for the DNLA streaming.

  • Is the PS3 DLNA compliant? If not, can it consume from SMB shares? Give it a try, you could be the first! :)

  • A fully updated PS3 is a DLNA 1.5 compliant Digital Media Player. (info can be found at dlna.org)

It should work, but I haven't tested it myself (yet). I'll post back once I've tested it out.

  • I was going to say, I’ve been doing this at a friends house with previous private builds of Vail.  So it works fine.

  • I have been streaming ALOT of movies and videos to my ps3 for the last few days and it works perfectly, i would go so far as to say it is working better , and with NO setup; than WHS V1. It is also streaming to the Xbox360 just fine. As i am posting this i am streaming 2 movies at once, one to the PS3 and one to the Xbox. I am running Vail on a Pentium D 3.0 ghz , 1 gig of ram a 160 gig sys drive and a 160 gig external usb 2 drive. Everything is streaming from the usb drive, and the processor hasn't gone over 5 percent yet.

  • Windows Home Server will not stream TS_VIDEO format (i.e. files ripped from DVD, what you have) or .iso format (DVD disk image). For the former, there's a way to use Windows Media Center on your home theater PC to read those folders jsut as though they were DVDs. For more information about that, I would consult The Green Button .

  • I'm using Vail with my 2 PS3's, everthing works fine.

I'm streaming mpeg-2, to my PS3, but it's not supported yet in Vail :( What is good (HD-quality) for supporting both?
