windows 7 not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I bought a computer 6 months ago in France. Now down right the desktop it saysmy version of windows 7 it's not genuine. I have tried to formate the comp and when i enter the key product which is needed it tells me the key is incorrect (i bought a family pack). I did change the language to english with vistalizator and I have been reading on forum that could be the issue. Then I am not an expert and don't really get what to do now...

    Thanks for your help

Before I start trying to fix these, there's another tool we need to run....

Please download and save  the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.

The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file  - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your SkyDrive Public folder so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

  • File Scan Data-->
    File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\sppwinob.dll[Hr = 0x80092003]

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    CHKDSK C: /R

    and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,

and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

    then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    SFC /SCANNOW

    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive Public folder (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

  • Please try posting the link again - I can't access your skydrive through your email account (which is why I redacted it for safety)

Copy the link into your reply, then change the initial http:// to hxxp://  this will tell the system it's not an active link, and allow it to be posted, while still leaving it easily-accessible.

I'm pretty certain I know exactly which  file is causing the error - but the report will confirm it, and also point up any other files which need attention.

  • Here's the first fix - to repair the problems showing in the CheckSUR report.

    I've uploaded a file - mmlaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at  Noel's SkyDrive

    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…

Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder  mmlaa in the same place.

Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

  • ...and here's the second fix to repair the other files found by the SFC.

    I've uploaded a file - mmlab.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\mmlab
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\mmlab
    or
    DIR E:\mmlab

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\mmlab <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, and post a new link

Also run a new MGADiag report, and post the result.

  • Here's the fix for the final CheckSUR error....

    I've uploaded a file - mmlac.zip - to my SkyDrive at  Noel's SkyDrive

    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…

Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder  m mlac in the same place.

Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Hopefully, that will cure that problem.

  • ....and here's the fix for most of the remaining SFC errors.

    I've uploaded a file - mmlad.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\mmlad
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\mmlad
    or
    DIR E:\mmlad

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\mmlad   <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

There are still two outstanding errors - these are difficult for me, since they both relate to original files from your French -language installation of Windows, and I don't have a copy of such a Windows disk.

Do you have access to a copy of Windows 7 (any edition)? - preferably the original build without Service Pack 1.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Are you getting Windows Updates downloaded and installed now?

Please run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the new CBS.log - things may have changed.

  • Hi,

I have been able to do all updates and everything went on well,

I have been able to download flash player eventhough I cannot read youtube and video posted online what could it be?... It seem also Realplayer launch error messages of Bad image. When the computer restart, these messages of bad pictures keep on showing:

    example:

    CCC.EXE Bad Image

    C:\windows\Microsoft.Net\framework64\v2.0.50727\culture.dll

and after few click to close this window (which will reapper with the same message but instead of CCC.EXE it will be MOM.EXE or PCEE.EXE etc...) a winodw open saying Catalyst Control center has stopped working.

Here is the link of the new CBS

    Thanks,

    M.

  • CCC.exe is almost certainly the Catalyst Control Center - part of your ATI/AMD display drivers.

Uninstall it from Programs & Features, then go to the AMD site and get updated drivers for your graphics adapter (which will get you a new CCC)

    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

I'll have a look at the CBS and post back with the analysis later :)

  • Hmm - the SFC results are the same as previously - but it looks like there's another couple of errors that will appear in a CheckSUR report.

Please run the CheckSUR tool again, and upload the CheckSUR.log and CheckSUR.Persist.log files.

  • There's no changes in the CheckSUR report - maybe I'm reading the CBS log wrong.

Please run the following commands from an Elevated Command Prompt, and then upload the two resulting files  to your Skydrive (from your desktop - npmum.mum and npcat.cat)

    Copy C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-Indexing-Service-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7601.17514.mum %userprofile%\desktop\npmum.mum

  • Hi,

I think i messed up with the CCC, since i could no find anything in "programm to unistall", i downloaded the AMD catalyst uninstall from the link you gave me, then i downloaded the version for windows 7 64 bit and it tells me it's not compatible with wath i have and that i should contact my notebook manufacturer for a graphic driver update... now my comp looks like it's running in safe mode....

Regarding your instrution, i did copy the commands the 1st one comes like windows can't open this file / Use internet to find th correct program or select a program from alist...

the second one opened a security catalog which was saying that everything is ok but i had no option to save anything...

it seems i have not been efficient today :(

  • That's OK - I get days like that :)

Let's worry about the CCC first....

Please open your Device Manager and look for the Graphics adapter in the list- double-click on the main entry to expand it (unless it's already expanded). What adapters are listed?

Do any have yellow or red 'flag' on them? - right-click any that do,  and select Uninstall.

reboot - this should force them to be redetected, so go back into Device Manager and see what they are described as now.

What is the exact make/model of your machine? (I'll have a hunt for the proper driver pack from here)

  • Hi,

    tahnks for the support ;)

I did manage to get back the interface normal,

    now the device manager shows

    - Intel(R) HD graphics 3000

    - Standard VGA Graphics Adaptater and the yellow flag remains on this one, but I am to scaredto uninstall it after this experience...

My machin is Sony VAIO SVE14A1V1EW

Note the warnings and installation advice.

Odd to see both AMD and Intel graphics on a machine!

  • Hi Noel,

I managed to get back flashplayer! was a conflict with intel...

The only bad message that keep appearing when i turn on the comp is culture.dll

    any idea?

    Saturday, March 23, 2013 8:37 AM
  • Culture.dll is one of the files we're trying to repair (and not succeeding too well with) at the moment ;)

Since it's been a while please run new SFC and CheckSUR scans and upload the logs so I can check that there's nothing new.

Please also run the following commands

    ICACLS C:\Windows\System32\culture.dll

    DIR C:\Windows\culture.dll /S

    and post the results.

I think I see what's happened - you misread the command to apply once in the Repair environment

You MUST get it exactly right - the file must be copied to the C:\Windows\winsxs folder, but you appear to have copied them to the ordinary Windows folder so far.

Please print these instructions out - or write them down carefully - and try again.

Reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

     (

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, and post a new link

Also run a new MGADiag report, and post the result.

The Culture.dll file has been fixed, so you shouldn't be seeing that error any more?
The remaining errors may be problems in the registry (or problems with my files)

I have to go out and may not get back until tomorrow - If you don't hear from me by this time tomorrow, Shout!!

  • OK - for problems with the Hotmail/outlook.com migration, please post in the Community forums here...

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/mail

That forum has a number of MS Engineers/Moderators who can deal with your problems privately if necessary to change settings, etc. in your account.

    As for your remaining problems....

please run SFC /SCANNOW again and post the results - I need to check that repairing the culture.dll problem hasn't changed the outcome at all.

  • Hmm - That log is interesting - but unfortunately, the data I needed had been rolled off into the persist archives.:(

Let's get the whole shebang :)

Please copy the entire C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your desktop, compress it, and upload it to your SkyDrive.
