Weird issue with home groups RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have some weird stuff with Home groups in Vail.

The Homegroups Provider is my home computer (Windows 7 Home Premium), Vail seems to be well connected to the home groups. I can see "Home Server" in the Home groups from my PC. And I can fully access to the files.

But if I go to the dashboard => server settings => homegroups it say that there is no Home Groups on the network. So it proposes me to create one, but if I try the operation fail with and "unknown problem"

Despite this, I can configure folder sharing normally. But today I needed to delete and recreate a folder which didn't appears on the home groups sharing.

Does somebody ever seen this issue here ?

  • Hi,

    Have not seen this.
Did you try restarting the server and client PC's?

If the problem persists, please report this to Connect?

  • Yes I restarted the server, and the computer which is home groups provider was restarted the same day.

I'll fill a report on connect, but I'm not able to explain how to reproduce the bug :-s

  • Try this?

Start the machine you first installed Windows 7 on. Then have the Vail server "join" the already existing HomeGroup

    1. Get the password from your first machine at Control Panel\Network and Internet\HomeGroup\View and copy down your homegroup password. (passwords are case senative)
    2. Join the Homegroup from your Vail machine at Control Panel\Network and Internet\HomeGroup. Simply leave your homegroup, join the first one by typing in the Homegroup password from the first machine on your Vail machine.
