uninstallation - reinstallation issue

Question
-
My Live One Care subscription expired. I went to an office supply store and bought a new program. I tried to install it. Got a message saying I had to uninstall the old version. I did. The uninstall program corrupted the CD driver on my computer so I couldn't reinstall. I went to a system restore and got the CD drive back, but I don't want to uninstall again in case the same thing happens again.
What do I do now?

Had OneCare been removed completely, you should feel free to proceed wtih the install. Note that when you finish the installation, if you click subscribe and use the same LiveID for the expired subscription, you will not be asked for a new key.
You don't actually need to reinstall, you simply need to renew using the key from inside the retail package.

The issue with losing the CD drive is a problem with many programs that provide burning capabilities. See this site for a script that fixes it - http://dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm

I have the same problem. Let the subscription run out because I refused to pay $49.95 Bought a new subscription for One-Care at Office Depot for $19.95. Ran the OneCar Clean-up tool, Installed the new subscription, but it never asks me for the product key. It keeps asking me to pay my $49.95 renewal fee!Tuesday, December 16, 2008 1:52 AM

You did not need to uninstall/reinstall. You simply needed to renew with the retail key.
Now that you reinstalled, by activating with the same LiveID, the new install inherited the subscription status of the existing subscription and you were not prompted for payment or a retail PIN/Key.
Go to http://billing.microsoft.com/ and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)
Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.
Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.
Enter the 25 character key and proceed.
It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare if you are renewing within 30 days of expiration and 5 days if renewal was performed between 90 and 30 days before expiration.
