Ran an update recently and now I have this notification on all my Office 2007 Professional products indicating they are not genuine copies.  I've had this laptop and genuine software over 3 years and many updates and this is the first time I've had this happen.  I ran the diagnostics and they are pasted above.  How do I cure this issue?

  • Hello cartmanlarry,

Both your Windows XP Pro and your Office Enterprise 2007 are reporting as installations of Volume Licensing products.

Usually that means you are part of a larger business, educational, or govermental organization.  If so, please report your problem to your tech support staff for assistance.

If you are not associated with an organization that may have Volume Licensing Agreements with Microsoft for both Windows and Office, then what to do depends upon the product in question.

Does your Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) for Windows XP Pro affixed to the bottom of th laptop?  Or is it for another version or edition of Windows?  Or no CoA?

Did your purchase of Office Enterprise 2007 come with retail materials (such as a retail package [the clear rounded corner plastic case that Office 2007 comes in], a Certificate of Authenticity on that retail package, and hologrammed installation disc[s])?  If so, then you might be able to apply for complimentary replacement from Microsoft.  If the materials you receive are judged to be hi-quality counterfeits, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer or for the Office Genuine Advantage discounted offer.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC  If you think that you qualify for the Genuine Office Offer, apply for the Offer thru the Learn More Online link that the OGA Notifier is displaying.

If you do not have any Office materials, then your options would be limited to acquiring a Genuine license for Office, purchasing the edition of Office that suits your needs at your favorite software retailer.  You may want to consider participating in the Office 2010 beta program, which will allow you free use of the Office 2010 Beta until it expires in October 2010:  http://www.microsoft.com/office/2010/en/default.aspx
