  • It appears the installed OEM SLP license for Windows 7 Professional belongs to an Acer/Gateway PC.  You have an HP PC and thus it will not activate.  Please contact HP Support and request the HP Recovery disc designed for your specific model HP PC.  In addition, the installed copy of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 is counterfeit and should be replaced with a genuine edition of Microsoft Office.

Windows was activated when i got the laptop but after i tried to install linux on another partition, thats when i had to enter the activation key, which didnt work. I also got Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 with the laptop.

Unfortunately, whoever owned the laptop before you installed a counterfeit copy of Windows 7 Professional and a counterfeit copy of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007.  They used an activation exploit to self-activate the counterfeit copy of Windows 7 Professional which was dumb since Microsoft is well aware of this type of hack and can undo it via Windows Update.

Where did you get the laptop?  An OEM SLP install uses a SLIC Table in the BIOS to self activate.  Those are populated at the factory and are keyed on a vendor basis.  So the SLIC Table (and Product Key) for a Dell is different than one from Lenovo.

What is the OS Listed on the COA Sticker?  The installed OS must match the one that is listed on that sticker.  The sticker may be in the battery compartment underneath the battery.

As far as the Office install goes, it is a Blocked VLK version.  This means that it was originally licensed for use in a Volume environment but the key has been blocked due to misuse.  The install for that did NOT come from a factory installation.

  • Just out of curiosity, where in the report does it say that it was registered for an acer machine

  • -The laptop was bought for me, and I don't know where from.

-On a sticker in the battery compartment there is a part of it where it mentions windows being registered.

  • What is the OS that is listed on that sticker?  Does the Product Key on the sticker match the one in your report?  (Do NOT post the product key on your sticker here!)

  • The Product Key itself - it's well-known.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?
