  • The product key affixed to your computer signifies a genuine version of Windows.  It is not to be used to replace the master product key used by your computer manufacturer to preinstall Windows at the factory.  Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and click on Validate Windows.  What is the result?

What is a Certificate of Authenticity (COA)?

Thank you for validating your copy of Microsoft Windows.

Thank you for using the Windows Genuine Advantage program. You may now access resources for genuine Windows users.

I have the large manufacturer pre-installed windows COA

    Hello anam08,

I am unsure what your issue is. Your Diagnostic Report shows that your Vista is Genuine and your Office is a trial version of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. I do not see any error codes.

You state in your secound post that your Vista Validated without error, so I assume when you say (above) that you need to Validate, you actually mean you need to Activate.

Vista that comes preinstalled on a computer, built by a large computer manufacturer, come with two (2) product keys:

    1) OEM SLP: This key come inside Vista when it comes from the Factory. This key is geared to work with the special instructions found only on that Manufacturer's motherboards. So when Vista was installed using the OEM SLP key  (at the factory) Vista looks at the motherboard and see the special instructions and Activates itself. (that's why you did need to Activate your computer after you brought it home)

    2) COA SLP: This is the Product key that you see on the sticker on the side of your computer. It is diffrent than the OEM SLP key. It's a valid product key, but should only be used in limited situations. The key does require activation, but you must Activate by Phone.

Your Vista is currently using the OEM SLP key, so it should be self activated. Are you receiveing some kind of error asking you to Activate?  Please describe the issue in more detail.

    Thank you,

    Darin Smith

  • well first of all..

when i start microsoft word or something else..

a message comes up saying -

Although you are not required to enter yuor product key now, we recommend you to do so for the ease of validating your Microsoft Office license. For information about where your product key is located, click the Help button.

So when i do enter my product key it says -

The key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and then re-type it.

It does that all the time. its soo annoying.

then when i close the box i cant use any of the features in microsft word.

    and second of all..

dont i have the COA slip because there is a sticker on the bottom of my laptop saying the product key.

does this mean i have to activate by phone??

    please reply ASAP.

    thankyou. x
