Missing Automatic Backups RRS feed

  • Question

  • For a long time, my 3 machines were backing up perfectly. Now, although to the best of my knowledge nothing changed, one machine refuses to backup automatically. I am able to manually invoke manual backups on that one machine.

When I look in the C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\Logs directory at (for instance) last nights Backup log I see

On the server, backups are set to run from 1:00 am to 6:00 am.

Backups on the other two machines ran from 3:09:50 to 3:27:35 and 3:27:35 to 4:03:48.

On the server, the one machine that is being skipped shows a cleanup of the backup database starting at 01:00 and an entry "03:00:44 Backup set 0 for PETERS-PC has finished."

Later on when I ran a manual backup for that same failing PC (initiated from the WHS console) I see "09:48:13 Backup set 396 for PETERS-PC has started" followed eventually by "10:51:47 Backup set 396 for PETERS-PC has finished."

In case this was an error with the WHS software on my PC, I reinstalled it; this made no difference.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi Peter,

its always the client, which initiates the backup. Since it uses the time frame set by the server, but does not instantly start backing up, if another backup is finished, you could ty to increase the period, in which a backup is allowed to run. Date, time and time zone of client and server are matching?

Could you check also the event logs of client and server? Maybe the client falls into sleep again after waiting too long, so the backup will not happen.

    Best greetings from Germany
