Keep getting these annoying messages i cant even play games anymore.....You may be a victim of software counterfeiting ect. New dell system i assume dell doesnt use counterfeited software so i dont know what the problem is. Need help asap. (also, i cant open control panel, personalize any settings or print, and all of these problems occured at the same time, randomly. system restore was attempted in safe mode, didnt do anything, Tech guy on the phone reccomends PC restore which i REALLY dont want to do)

    Tried this:

    1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in:  services.msc

    2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

    3. The Services window should now open.

    4. Scroll down to Software Licensing, then right-click on it and select Properties.

    5. Under the General tab, click on the Stop button.

    6. Set the Startup Type to Automatic, then click Apply.

    7. Next, under Service Status, click on the Start button.

    8. Last, restart your computer.

In terms of Step 5, it was already stoped, so instead i clicked the start button, but then i got an error saying it couldn't start on this local computer.

Then i tried net start slsvc in cmd. this didnt work, cmd just displayed a bunch of errors:

"the software licenscing service could not be started. A system error has occured. systerm error 57346 has occured. The system cannont find message text for message number 0xe002 in the message file for BASE."

  • Hello VistaOwnsMe,

In your Diagnostic Report it shows the error code "Online Validation Code: 0x80070426". This means that the Software Licensing Service has stopped. Vista uses this service to check itself and confirm it is Genuine. When the service is stopped, Vista is unable to confirm it's own Genuine status and may show Genuine or Non-Genuine. The fact that the Service has stopped is also, most likely, the cause of  other issues you may be experiencing (such as not having access to the Control Panel).

You have done everything that I would have suggested.  The problem is that if Vista was working properly, those troubleshooting steps, that you tried, would have worked. So either there is something suppressing that Service from starting (maybe a 3rd Party Program or Virus) or Vista isn't processing the commands, to start the Service, correctly. Either way, I can only conclude that the Licensing/Non-Genuine problem is just a symptom of a larger issue.

My only two suggestions would be to contact Vista support at http://support.microsoft.com or to reinstall Vista.

I am very sorry I couldn't be more help,
