I am receiving messages Fatal Execution Engine Error 0x7927e03e. The messages refer to:
DiscUpdateMgr.exe
DiscUpdMgr.exe
ScanDiskMgr.exe.
The problems started after trying to update Norton Internet Security via dial up download. I attempted to un-install the original Norton 2006 and re-install Norton 2007 using a cd. After re-installation, I could not open Quickbooks. Quickbooks help directed me to .NET Framework 1.1. I have attempted to un-install 1.1 and a hotfix. The un-installation indicated it may not be complete. I proceeded with the new downloads to install:
.NET Framework 1.1
.NET Framework 1.1 SP1
In my control panel under add/remove programs, I am now showing the following:
.NET Framework 1.0
.NET Framework 1.1
.NET Framework Hotifx 886903
.NET Framework SP1
At this point I am still receiving the error 0x7927e03e, Quickbooks will not open and I am unable to write to a cd or dvd (needed at this time for backup). Is someone willing to help guide me thru the steps to correct these problems (in simple terms)?
Thank you

I'm sorry to say that you're off topic for this forum, which is dedicated to Windows Live OneCare. Since the problem began with Norton Internet Security, I would suggest starting with their support contacts for help.

I have received the same error message in an Windows Security Update KB928366. The update is apparently for .Net Framework version 1.1. I don't even use .Net Framework, but my automatic update downlaoded the update, which keeps trying to install and keeps reporting the same Fatal Execution Engine Error 0x7927e03e.

There's a load of discussion on this update failing for many people over in the Windows Update newsgroups.
The solution for most is to uninstall and reinstall .Net Framework version 1.1 or whichever version is having the problem. Then revisit Windows Update.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear you have the received the same error. You are the first to reply to my post. I encountered the problem after trying to update Norton security software. I have been told it was the result of an incomplete removal of the prior version. If you enter the error code in to a google search bar, you will see many occurances of this....... however, I did not find any solutions that seemed to work. I was able to exit out of the errors and use most functions of my pc. Where I was affected was in the abiltiy to write to CD's, DVD's and some of the card readers. I use my pc mainly for photography, so I could not do without these functions.
I gave up trying to isolate the error and fix it. I reformatted my pc, first using the back up disks I had created shortly after purchase. This only removed the error warning box. I still was not able to write to CD's, etc. I then ordered the operating disks from HP and started over. I had to perform the "destructive" restoration, to erase the hard drive.
The worst of all, is that this began two days prior to the expiration date of my HP warranty. Had I called HP, instead of sitting on terminal hold on Norton's 800 line, it would have been covered by my warranty. If your pc is still under warranty, I would immediatly report the problem to the manufacturer.
I wish I could offer a simple solution!
