  • Question

  • Guys open the link that shows th list of STUDENT ROCKSTARS along with their rank.

Now search for "Allaudeen" you will notice he is in Rank 1 in the search results.
Now seacrh for "Rajkumar", you will notice that he is also in rank 1 in the search results as well as the main rockstar list.

The real rockstar at rank 1 is rajkumar, but still in the search results its showing Allaudeen at rank 1 Smile

    Admins should fix it Smile

  • Search for "varun", then it shows "varun ranjan" as Rank 1...

The database behaves in odd ways...

  • Dear Friend,

Greetings, the problem is not with the admin but it is the problem of the query. Allaudeen has registered in different types that which you would get in the results they were not different, I suppose. But the problem is he will be listed accordingly to the triggered operation. Likewise the query results with duplication so dont worry. The first place with rajkumar only.

I suppose that you got me.

    Regards,

  • Well this is the 1st time I m coming accross any such problem... My alerts are working fine, its get lazzy sometime and come late.. but no 404 error...

When do you exactly get this 404 error??
    Saturday, May 5, 2007 2:13 AM
  • Yes i agree the problem is not with the admins, But its the admins responsibility to find out such issues, and complain to the programming staff. But if they do their job lazily, then whats the use ?
    Saturday, May 5, 2007 5:09 AM
  • it is really something bad... even there are mistakes in total of points!

when you are posting a new topic/replying a current one, theres two buttons below, amongnst the rest

    1. alert me check box

    2. post

once i check the alert me checkbox [which is on by default], i am forwarded to a welcome page of microsoft alerts....there they hav "bla bla bla" written, then at the end comes two buttons

    1. ok  [on clicking this it gives me 404 error]

    2. cancel  [on clicking this it redirects me to the previous forum]

    good one harshil!!!

    Sunday, May 6, 2007 2:30 PM
  • Thanks adnan.

The points for me are still showing 292 more than the actual total, So that means that the points for the whitepaper ratings have not been updated properly. They have been updated, but still they dont reflect into the points table.
    Sunday, May 6, 2007 2:45 PM

  • Harshil, I am BE CSE currently writing my third year final exams. I am currently learning vb.net, C# and SQL server 2005. If you could give me some pointers for the campus placements and how i should prepare, i would really appreciate that. We can have discussion in another thread if you want. We can let everybody share thier views for placements and interview techniques.

may be that can be the case, but what makes me wonder is that, wehn i first started posting at the forums, these alerts and the redirects worked well, but after a few days they caused problems, now even if theres some browser settings conflict, i cant debug it because no other website or application is giving any kind of errors.......u hv any suggestions for browser settings that may conflict?

    Sunday, May 6, 2007 8:53 PM
  • hmmm, infact its a problem in the database system only because when we fire a query the output is not as expected... so either the data goes wierd or the query is not running fine...
but in short its the system failure... so no doubts on it...
    Monday, May 7, 2007 4:03 AM
  • I agree with you Varun, that there is a problem in their system somewhere. But to correct you , it aint a FAILURE, the appropriate word would be FAULT Stick out tongue

A failure would cause a system to not even work, but a fault may cause the system to behave unexpectedly Smile

  • HEY ITS NOT WORKING
    Monday, May 7, 2007 6:47 PM
  • The whole contest is not doing well, whats the mean that even points total is wrong!!! so what other to say!!
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 3:24 AM
  • The problem is that, some people have got more points, some haven;t yet got the points. Hope they get updated at the next month.
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 4:10 AM
  • Yeah i hope so too. Half the queries we receive inquire about points.

    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 7:33 AM
  • U are right m8
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 9:55 AM
  • @yogesh i agree with you, the contest is not well managed ....it has to have proper announcements from microsoft section as well, there has to be atleast a moderator u c....if microsoft people are busy with their work tasks, then they should appoint moderators from the forums, who would do the moderating..wat say?....and this way, things can be managed well...

    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 10:33 AM
  • guys u r all correct.. wen i click the user profile it says my level is newbie RANK:1 POINTS not shown...
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 10:52 AM
  • Well I think that there should be one of the moderators working actively in the forums, than it will be a fast communication of the information.. its like that Devsquare person had joined us at a time when we were having problems in understanding the marks allocation in the 2nd quiz..
it was fast and easy, even he was able to have a mass apeal....

So, Moderators have a participation in the forums....
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 11:43 AM
  • The question here is, are our words reaching to the admins or any moderator ? Do they even read our posts and suggestions.

They should consider the viewpoints of the participants, and if necessary should actively participate, and try to solve the problem of the students.

Its a Country wide competition, and this is what we expect from the management staff ??
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 1:45 PM
  • I think Microsoft is doing its best, and will ensure that all problems are solved before the competition ends. I participated in TGMC 2006, and support from IBM was, lets just say, caused more confusion, then you can imagine. Lets start a thread for the admins, and report the problems, without any chat or replys from ourside. Try to keep the posts as relevant as possible. Instead of complaining, lets make things easier for them and us. Who's with me?
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 3:37 PM
  • Admin will do whatever they thiks are better for all!!!
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 4:16 PM
  • ya, me too getting the same 404 error
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 4:35 PM
  • I dont think that the admins will even peep in the forums..  Whats the use ..... the admins got other work to do as well , in that too they are lazy, why would they want to take up more load.
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 6:23 PM
  • this is common to the site.....many problems since this contest was started

I had thought of it, but if you go through the threads, there are many such threads addressing the Admins, but they all failed... Reason ??
1.) Either people start posting unnecessarily which makes the thread useless..
2.) Either people dont post , which makes the thread Obsolete, as a result, it is pushed back a lot.

So the final conclussion is that, its of no use......

One possible solution is that we get the email-id of the admins...
now we say what the problem is to other members and every member sends a mail, this will just block their emails and they will have to check out atleast some of the mails... in short the message is conveyed...

    I m a DEVIL
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 6:47 PM
  • As the admins are used to stay lazy, do you think they will respond to the bombarding of the mails Stick out tongue i guess they will just ignore then, or bulk delete them Smile

    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 6:51 PM
  • Hope so that next contest if any will be good as compared it!!!
    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 7:16 PM
  • I guess if this contest is organized next year, the admins will definitely try to change one thing, either change the 10K limit to something lower, or give more opportunity for points.

Admins will learn from this competition, and hope next time they dont do such mistakes.

    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 11:33 AM
  • Hey Guys ..............looks like things are looking fine now. It was probably something to do with points updation of offline events.............. Looks fine now
    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 11:49 AM
  • What do you mean by offline events ? Quiz, whitepapers, etc ? I guess they had updated the points for it in the first 2-3 days of this month itself. The problem i that the rank have started fluctuating after the points was updated.
    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 2:21 PM
  • @Varun - I have somethign to say about your FireFox problem.

It happens in FF, when you stay logged in the studentrockstar site for a long time, and the session expires. After that if you try logging it will keep on popping up that "Continue" MessageBox.

There is no other solution , other than clearning the cache and trying, or restarting FireFox Smile

I use firefox 100% of the time, and i face no problems in  the site except for that MessageBox. I just restart Firefox, and the problem gets solved.
    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 2:27 PM
  • I have a question. The email for correspondence is my gmail id. I used my hotmail id, to sign up for the registration and to login in the forums. My hotmail id is also used for watching the webcasts. Will this difference in id's be a problem for points accural?
    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 7:49 PM
  • It dont matter if you have a different correspondence id than the one which you use to login in the rockstar site. But you should take care during the quiz, cause when you are giving the quiz, you should enter the correspondence email id and not the one that you use to login into the rockstar site. I think the same also applies for the webcasts.

So to be on a safe site and not create any confusion or problem, i suggest you to change your correspondence  email id from the Edit Profile Page in the student rockstar website. It will be much easier for you to remember, and also reduce the conflicts.
    Thursday, May 10, 2007 6:22 AM
  • Thanks Harshil. But i was thinking that i may lose some points because of changing my correspondence id, cause i have already attended some webcasts. Do you think this will be a problem?
    Thursday, May 10, 2007 10:09 AM
  • Finally the Admins Reply.. so they do keep a track of the mails that we sent and the forums.. so keep it up people.. track out more bugs....
    Thursday, May 10, 2007 11:54 AM
  • Guys, Finally this thread has spoken its words to the admins. The admins have come to know about this problem, and also rectified it.  I think the admins will slowly rectify other minor problems as well.

I would like to thank all of you who have participated in this thread, and discussed about their viewpoints for the same, which forced the admins to act promptly Smile

    Congratulations guys once again.!!!
    Thursday, May 10, 2007 4:44 PM
  • Well , your thread has brought the attention of the administrators towards the  problem ...

Thanks karichela purnima and all those replied in this thread

    Thursday, May 10, 2007 4:48 PM
  • @adnan : - i beleive that you should keep your email correspondence in place and same, because, if you go under the link "edit profile", there they have mentioned clearly, that from now onwards please use this email id .... so i think for us to be on the safer side, we should use the same email id, because you wont come to know, if you do not get certain points....so must well be on the safer side and use the same email id...

@varun : - for me firefox works fine and i had to press continue only once, and infact right now i m replying from firefox....[just to see whether things r in place or not]

    @harshil : - hi buddy..wats up?
    Thursday, May 10, 2007 6:12 PM
  • @Anoop - Nothing much Smile

I am just happy that our efforts and words have reached the admins. The admins are also playing a good part in this contest. Keep it up admins !!!
    Thursday, May 10, 2007 6:16 PM
  • ya good to know that some actions are taken, but some bugs are still the same...

    like

    1.  the 404 error

    2. @ forum index, it shows u a list of threads, just at the corner of the thread, it has page numbers written, if you click on any page lets say 5 then it still redirects you to page 1...has anybody noticed this?.....[pls dont confuse it with the page numbers at bottom once u enter the particular thread]

    Thursday, May 10, 2007 6:23 PM
  • See guys, i told you there was a bug in ALERTS...404 page not found....heres the proof of it

    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1560930&SiteID=1

i had brought up this bug in the MAIN bugs reporting area and the moderators replied and you can check it out

    Thursday, May 10, 2007 8:07 PM
  • Yeah Anoop, i have experienced both the bugs. And there is one more improvement we can suggest for the froum.

There should be a jump to last page, while viewing a thread.

    Friday, May 11, 2007 12:15 AM
  • Yes friends, there is still another bug in the forums. About the page jumping. When we click on the page number in the thread index, it don't take you to that specific thread. But i guess we will have to complain this problem to the Global admins, and not just the Indian admins . Because this is not a problem that can be handled by the local admins. The admins who are responsible for the maintenance of the entire MS forums, should check it. I don't know how will our words reach to them .
    Friday, May 11, 2007 5:12 AM
  • I reported some more bugs their..

When trying to jump to a certain page directly from the index of all the thread, it dosent happen so... it will be nice if that could happen...
Also when we reply in a thread, the thread returns to page 1, it will be nice if it could stay at last page after reply....
    Friday, May 11, 2007 11:24 AM
  • And ya about the Firefox Problem... i cleared out the cookies and all and now its working fine... But what was this problem??? it happened very suddenly.. why did the page ran in infinite loop of asking for continue?? anyone has any idea on it???
    Friday, May 11, 2007 11:30 AM
  • @Varun - First of all thanks for telling to the admins about both the  Bugs. Even i am fed up with those bugs. Its becoming non-userfriendly to use the forums.

Now about yoru Firefox problems - I think i have 2 reasons which could cause that problem

One, the session at the servers end might have timed out. In that case the local cookie might be trying to retry the connection with the old session ID, but as the session ID has been expired, and the server wont generate a new session ID unless you either try with a new connection or get the cookie deleted. Hence it gets into an infinite loop.

Now the other reason (the opposite of it) could be, the cookie expires, while the session on the server is still alive, in that case the server thinks that the server assumes that the client will provide the session id, and the other local information stored in the cookie. But that would be absent, or in a  non-consistent state, hence into the infinite loop once again.

Out of th two reasons personally think that the first reason i have provided would be correct. Others are welcomed to discuss on it.

Now one question arises, if its the problem , then why only it occours in FF ? I think there is a different mechanism used by FF in handling cookies, but i am not sure about it.

    Friday, May 11, 2007 4:11 PM
  • Thankz for the information... now i m starting to understand a bit,...
This leads to my next question.. can you put more light on how the server works.. i.e about the Session ID and Cookies...
    Friday, May 11, 2007 5:54 PM
  • Ok ill discuss in short about a bit on cookies and sessions.

Cookies are stored on the client side, by the browser. They are stored locally. Also there are various types of cookies, like temporary cookie, permanent cookie, etc etc. Cookies are nothig but just normal text file stored in the hard disk which is used by the browser. THey contain information about the site name, its last updated time, username, password if required, and also some regional settings, and other preferences like colors, language, etc etc, so that next time you login to that site the same settings are loaded from the cookie (the information in the cookie is sent as a HTTP request header when you open the site) and sent to the site on a http request. The server reads the information from the header about the cookie data, and then prepares the settings of the page that will be displayed dynamically.

Umm its a  but tough to explain what a session is.. Session is created on the server side, by the web server, each session has a session ID, and other information stored into it. This is how the site knows that youare the person who have logged in and are viewing different pages. And thats the reason why you only require to login in once into hotmail.com or any other site, and then view ALL THE PAGES that are allowed for you, without even authenticating for each page request. The session and cookies handle them for you. Sessions are stored in the RAM,  also they got a lifetime, once they expire, you will be prompted to login into the site  .....

I think i have started about it , more information if you want, i guess someone else can better explain, or wikipedia it Smile its not hard to understand the concepts, but you need to have interest in it Smile
    Friday, May 11, 2007 6:22 PM
  • Great explanation my friend.... Now somebody give me a glass of milk to eat my cookie.
    Friday, May 11, 2007 9:55 PM
  • Nice one Harshill, Thankz...
    Friday, May 11, 2007 10:26 PM
  • Make sure before you eat that cookie its not an expired once, else it will keep on looping in your stomach, and as a result you will keep on looping in and out of the toilet.

haha bad joke, i know.....but still.... nothing else came into my mind...

    Saturday, May 12, 2007 5:13 AM
  • One more thing i strongly feel they should add is the AJAX while marking posts as answers, and also while posting the posts. This would remove one of the bug which while creating a new post (reply) and submitting takes us to the first page Stick out tongue

Also it will be much more convenient for us, and also lesser bandwidth utilization at our end and also the servers' end.
    Saturday, May 12, 2007 5:17 AM
  • no any busgs now
    Saturday, May 12, 2007 8:09 AM
  • @Jabed, there are still bugs in the forums Smile
    Saturday, May 12, 2007 8:23 AM
  • where is the bugs dear

    Saturday, May 12, 2007 8:37 AM
  • Varun has already mentioned the two bugs. Ill mention them for you once again

    1.  in the Thread Index page, the threads shows the pagenumber on the  right side. But when you click no the respective page number, it dont take you to that page number, instead it only takes you to the first page of that particular thread.

    2.  After you post a reply in a thread, you are redirected to the first page of the thread. Instead it should take you to the page from where you did the post, or to the last page.
    Saturday, May 12, 2007 9:24 AM
  • yup, those are the bugs.... and they are some serious issues.. as Harshil mentioned this things eats up the bandwith.. for me, I have unlimited but slow speed of only 64 Kbps, so it takes up a lot of time to post back in the threads..
    Saturday, May 12, 2007 9:43 AM
  • yes i agree with you Varun, it does eat up a bandwidth, But its not a problem for you as you have unlimited, many dont got unlimited connection. You have unlimited but at slow speed, so it does take lot of time to browse from one page to the next, and from the next to the other, because there is no facility to directly jump to a particular page as of now, unless you know the total number of pages in that thread from the thread index page, and then append &pageID=Tot_Pages-1 to the URL.

Guys have you tried clicking on the alert that you get in MSN messenger when a post is made to the thread that you are subscribed to ? when you click on that alert, it takes you directly to the appropriate page. If they can give direct link to the intended page in the alert, then why not provide it in the link that is sent to us as an email alert. Stick out tongue
    Saturday, May 12, 2007 4:52 PM
  • ya thatz a valid point.. they can give that link here also in the forums... good Harshil...

If they can give direct link to the intended page in the alert, then why not provide it in the link that is sent to us as an email alert.

    yes, a good idea indeed...

    nice info there about cookies...

also harshil, you were talking about that AJAX thing....actually its very new technology thats coming up with web pages....infact i am quite aware as to how it works?...how is it incorporated into webpages?....how are these designed?....can u pls tell us abt it?

  • ONe more bug...

    its in the quote thing....

suppose the forum is of 8 pages and you want to quote a user's post on page 4, and when you click on the quote tab, at the users post on page 4, and then u submit the post...u'll see that the post is appended after the post which u had quoted, i.e THE POST APPEARS ON THE 4TH PAGE, AND NOT ON THE LAST PAGE[ UNLESS U R QUOTING A POST THAT IS ALREADY ON THE LAST PAGE]

    NOW THIS IS SO TROUBLESOME...

infact, when u quote a post from page 4, it should display the quoted post with the reply on the last page after the ;last post...

    has anyone noticed this bug?....

    Sunday, May 13, 2007 3:13 PM
  • Yeah Anoop, i was also experiencing the same problem, thats why i stopped quoting and instead reply to the last post in the thread.

Bsnl Tends out to be costly for me as compared to the TATA plan i m using.. I m very cost effective and have charted out my usage and what are the choices i have... the TATA plan that i use is too cost effective compared to others... Raise the topic in the Chat Thread, I will give out a whole observation, and who knows, even you might think to change ur plan
    Sunday, May 13, 2007 5:25 PM
  • @anoop

Well the system here is that when you reply to a post, your post is posted right below that post..
i.e. if u are replying to post 1, ur reply will be posted below 1, no matter where 1 is...
now if others have also posted reply to 1, lets say 1st A, then B, then C
then posts will be in order 1 A B C

Now if you reply to 1, lets say post X, the order will be 1 A B C X

This is what i think... correct me if i m wrong...

Now Quote is similar to reply, its just that when you click quote, it will include the original msn in ur post... So the order is maintained like in reply....

we will talk about the isp in the other thread...meanwhile

regarding the bug....i think , u r wrong about the quote thing, quote follows the same order as reply, if you aRE QUOTING OR REPLYING LAST POST....the sequence u had mentioned for reply was correct...but regarding the quote thing, the sequence is difference, when u quote a message, other than the last post, it will not display as the last reply..try it out...

    Sunday, May 13, 2007 5:43 PM
  • Man there is a bug in the REPLY and also QUOTE thingy.

It dont matter which post you REPLY to , sometimes it puts the post immediately after the post you have replied, and sometimes it appends it at the end of the thread. It happens randomly. Dont know why it behaves differently all the time.

    Same is with the QUOTE.

Do you think the admins do anything ? hehehee I think they are appointed to sit in the AC room and enjoy Stick out tongue

And btw, good observation about the 100th post Smile... Without you guys it wouldn't have been possible. Thanks everyone for contributing to this thread, and making it reach  century.

Lets make a double century ?

Why double century ? There are enough bugs in this forums, if we keep no listing them, i think we can reach 10 centuries. Atleast if we cannot reach the 10K points in rockstar, we can reach the 10K points in this thread if we keep on listing the bugs Smile

    Wednesday, May 16, 2007 3:16 PM

  • @Raghuram - I have also faced the same problem while marking posts as answer. It happened to me earlier but occasionally. Now a days, this is happening frequently.
Good notice Raghuram. I was facing this problem many times, but the idea didn't come to my mind that its a bug....
    Wednesday, May 16, 2007 3:42 PM
  • And one more bug I wanted to say from the beginning..

Do you know how i login into MSDN forums? (This happens when i access forums by clicking on the link in student rockstar)

When i click on the "sign in" command button, after a few seconds it displays "Could not find the page".. This presents itself even after many refreshes... So, i go back two pages by clicking twice on the BACK button, now i find that the page displays

    "

Sign out of the Microsoft Passport Network   Welcome back Raghuram_Duraisamy_ed4912!

    "

I have been logging in this way for the past many days...

  • Man, the referrals are working 100% alright. But there is a problem in the referral email that your referred friends receive. your friends should use that same link provided in the email, else you will not get points. But there is one problem in the link that they provided, they have put backslash (\) instead of forward slash(/). So whomever you refer to please send them an email letting them know to replace the slashes with the right one.and then you will surely get points.
    Thursday, May 17, 2007 7:34 AM
  • Hi friend,

ohh.. But when i was registering i didnt replaced the slashes .... k fine i ll ask my friends to do the next time .. thanks patil ...

  • msdn foums have been around for quite some time. MS has not dealth with these issues, and they might have a reason for it. But inspite of all this, msdn forum has high popularity. But i too agree, that its time MS showed its great power and straighten things out in the forums as well.
    Thursday, May 17, 2007 7:57 AM
  • @Mohan - I would like to correct you, its not Patil its Patel

@Adnan - Yes m8, msdn forums are popular because of the content and richness it got. Even though it got bugs its not much problem for all, because they are much interested in the content.
    Thursday, May 17, 2007 8:14 AM
  • @harshil and adnan - infact microsoft MSDN forums are very very recognised in the development environment....i always felt that they have such a string presence and postion, but  inspite of that they dont fix their bugs....they dont ...

and harshil nice find there regarding the referral link....

@raghuram - i face the same bug too, and that too exactly...

    Monday, May 21, 2007 10:49 AM
  • Yes man MSDN forum is really a place to be proud for. It has sustained since the starting. And also it got such huge reputation that all the information in there can be deemed to be 100% right. Also there are many MVP's there giving the answers and clearing the doubts. what more do you want from a forum.
    Monday, May 21, 2007 1:57 PM
  • where id the bugs
    Monday, May 21, 2007 2:31 PM
  • Hey Jabed, refer to the first few pages of this thread, and you will know which bugs we are talking about. If you have found any bug or problem in the site, then please point them out too.
    Monday, May 21, 2007 5:00 PM
  • There is one thought that saddens me. We have discovered so many bugs and have made many suggestions, all which might be lost once this section is deleted from after the competition closes. All our efforts might be in vain... Hope MS is reading this, and fixes all these bugs and proves again that it is consistent in quality....
    Monday, May 21, 2007 5:41 PM
  • Hey man thats sad, but dont worry, Forums wont be deleted. They might be locked, but they will not delete it. Thats what forums are meant to be. They are not just for live discussions, all the old information are also retained.
    Monday, May 21, 2007 6:04 PM
  • exactly harshil, just like i said in the other thread, dont worry adnan, the forums will be archived...

  • YIPPEEEEEEEE!!!!
    Tuesday, May 22, 2007 1:48 PM
  • The biggest bug i find is while logging

they are not sending encrypted email and password

the browser is showing a warning that the connection is not encrypted .

The administrator should take this matter seriously .
    Tuesday, May 22, 2007 6:36 PM
  • @Preetam - I get that too sometimes, and while it sends unencrypted passwords, it asks me the password again the 2nd time.

I am being asked for the password 2 times when i open studentrockstar and hotmail site both at the same time. and first try loging in studentrockstar, and then logging in hotmail. Then it asks me to enter password at hotmail once again. I dont know why this happens, but i have found out a solution to this. I open both the sites, and then login into hotmail first, once i login in hotmail, i just clck the signin from studentrockstar site, when i do so , it dnot ask for me the password again as the passport id is linked. This is perfectly OK, but when i try the other way, like first logging in rockstar and then in hotmail, the BUG never seems to go away Stick out tongue
    Wednesday, May 23, 2007 5:45 AM
  • @Harshil, i face the same problem. If i am logged into the forums, i cant login in to Student Rockstar. SO i amanually delete all the cookies and VOILA!!! I can login.

  • Thanks Adnan - I have created an account under you Wink Hope you have got the points. in that DeveloperKnowledgeDrive contest Wink
    Wednesday, May 23, 2007 4:02 PM
  • @Adnan - do you have any idea about how much points the first ranker has in that "Developer Knowledge Drive " contest ? and when the contest ends ?
    [EDITED]

Ok i have found out that the contest ends on 15th june 2007. Are you getting points for referrals in there ? i referred 2 friends, they have signed up for it through the email that was sent in the referral email, and still i haven't got the points. When are the points updated for the referral activities ?
    Wednesday, May 23, 2007 4:07 PM
  • I have no clue of either question. I checked the website, but no information regarding this is available... Thanks for the registration though. I dont think i will get the points, cos each referral is assigned a unique id and the id is not associated with the account. So i dont know how the contest admins plan to keep track of referrals and points...

Best of luck to everybody in this contest

    Wednesday, May 23, 2007 4:19 PM
  • Hey man, youare right about the referral, the link sent to everyone is different. But my friends signed up with the link that was sent to them in the referral email. Stil i didn't get points for it. Have you got any points in that contest by referring ? if yes, then when was the points updated ? immediately ? next day ? at the end of the week, month?
    Wednesday, May 23, 2007 4:53 PM
  • @Harshil, i just registered today. Lets wait and see what happens...

    Thursday, May 24, 2007 9:16 AM
  • Yes adnan. We can bear other bugs , but the bugs with the final results, NO NO!!!!!

But i think we should be worry-free as the admins will surely take care of this. Smile

  • Search for "varun", then it shows "varun ranjan" as Rank 1...

The database behaves in odd ways...

    Friday, May 4, 2007 7:24 AM
  • Dear Friend,

Greetings, the problem is not with the admin but it is the problem of the query. Allaudeen has registered in different types that which you would get in the results they were not different, I suppose. But the problem is he will be listed accordingly to the triggered operation. Likewise the query results with duplication so dont worry. The first place with rajkumar only.

I suppose that you got me.

    Regards,

When do you exactly get this 404 error??
    Saturday, May 5, 2007 2:13 AM
  • Yes i agree the problem is not with the admins, But its the admins responsibility to find out such issues, and complain to the programming staff. But if they do their job lazily, then whats the use ?
    Saturday, May 5, 2007 5:09 AM

when you are posting a new topic/replying a current one, theres two buttons below, amongnst the rest

    1. alert me check box

    2. post

once i check the alert me checkbox [which is on by default], i am forwarded to a welcome page of microsoft alerts....there they hav "bla bla bla" written, then at the end comes two buttons

    1. ok  [on clicking this it gives me 404 error]

    2. cancel  [on clicking this it redirects me to the previous forum]

    good one harshil!!!

The points for me are still showing 292 more than the actual total, So that means that the points for the whitepaper ratings have not been updated properly. They have been updated, but still they dont reflect into the points table.

try searching for Varun in the database at studentrockstar website....
there is one named Varun Ranjan who will be shown at rank 1, like this there are more names... but i tried searching this guy manually, but didnt found him..

This is really odd.. the database is not correct...

If you could give me some pointers for the campus placements and how i should prepare, i would really appreciate that. We can have discussion in another thread if you want. may be that can be the case, but what makes me wonder is that, wehn i first started posting at the forums, these alerts and the redirects worked well, but after a few days they caused problems, now even if theres some browser settings conflict, i cant debug it because no other website or application is giving any kind of errors.......u hv any suggestions for browser settings that may conflict?

    Tuesday, May 8, 2007 7:03 AM
  • Yes m8, this is what the thread i all about )":

  • yes its true... Search with name "aleem" u can find that one too in rank 1
    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 6:59 AM
  • search with the name "aleem" .. u'll find it also in rank 1
    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 7:03 AM
  • Hey man, it shows Rank 1 for you too. But does it show Rank 1 in the user profile page too ?
    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 7:44 AM
  • I tried searching for myself. And guess what i dont exist. Now, isnt that funny?
    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 8:14 AM
  • @Adnan -  Dont search for your full name, only search for your first name or last name, cause thats what the database is organized. The admins have saved the first name and last name in different fields, so if you enter the search string, it will query the database on the First name OR the last name, but if you enter the full name in the search string, it will not be found in either the firstname or thelast name Smile

    Rank Name Forums Display Name
    382 Adnan Hussain Adnan_Hussain_b89496

Here is what your rank is from that search page. I think you might have searched for your whole name, and thats why the results didn't show up.

Now there is a flaw in this too Stick out tongue

  • Here is a new bug...
Anyone using FireFox ?? I m not able to sign in the student rockstar site with firefox...
I have to use IE for it... This used to happen some time back, but than it had stopped, now again the problem persists... Whenever i try to sign in, it says that do you want to send the data, than we have to press continue, but than it goes on showing it... and continue to do it....
    Wednesday, May 9, 2007 11:38 AM

    @harshil : - hi buddy..wats up?

  • ya thatz a valid point.. they can give that link here also in the forums... good Harshil...

    yes, a good idea indeed...

    nice info there about cookies...

also harshil, you were talking about that AJAX thing....actually its very new technology thats coming up with web pages....infact i am quite aware as to how it works?...how is it incorporated into webpages?....how are these designed?....can u pls tell us abt it?

    Thank you

    Tuesday, May 22, 2007 1:01 PM

    Wednesday, May 23, 2007 7:51 AM
  • I think such issues will be solved before the next contest starts next year.

    Wednesday, May 23, 2007 5:42 PM

    Wednesday, May 23, 2007 6:57 PM
  • And another BUG now ..

My rank is shown as 87 in my user profile. But when i go through the list of STUDENT ROCKSTARS, i find my name at 86th rank.. Howz this inconsistency?

    Thursday, May 24, 2007 12:17 AM
  • will this finding of new bugs ever stop Stick out tongue

    Thursday, May 24, 2007 5:50 AM
  • Lets just hope there is no bug with the final results.
    Thursday, May 24, 2007 9:16 AM
  • Yes adnan. We can bear other bugs , but the bugs with the final results, NO NO!!!!!

But i think we should be worry-free as the admins will surely take care of this. Smile
