Regarding Search, Code Blocks, pre-formatted text, and plain text RRS feed

    This forum is "Using forums", "Forums Issues (not product support)".

    Regarding Search: Is there a way to search this specific forum for prior issues dealing with my specific problem? I see no way to do that. Oh, well. If this is redundant, know that I tried, but search wanted to pull me away from this forum.

    Regarding Code Blocks & pre-formatted text: I'm pleased that I can add a Code Block. I'm not pleased that the text in the resulting code block is set in a proportional font because text is then impossible to column align. To me, using a <pre> tag for code, as is currently done, is inappropriate. How about providing an actual <code> tag so that future visitors can search for actual code fragments? Use of <code> & <pre> tags should be consistent with their intended use in HTML. Of course, both should be set in monospace font.

    Regarding plain text: Why not use monospace font for everything? That would solve all text formatting problems while still allowing for embellishments like bolding, italics, etc. If monospace font was used everywhere, then there wouldn't need to be a <pre> tag at all!

    Kindly consider these suggestions. I believe their adoption would have minimal impact on existing forum topics & forum maintenance, and can be accomplished with minimal work.

    Thanks for moving this, Dave. I was misled. I thought, since the original forum was "Forums Issues" + "(not product support)", that, in contrast, this forum was somehow linked to product support. I guess I was wrong.

    This seemed like forums application suggestions. If I'm wrong let me know. As to search; the built-in forums search is quite primitive. Limited to basically doing keyword or, by "quoting", doing exact text type searches. Another option is to use bing or google with similar as below.

    That's why I suggest TechNet have actual <code> blocks that could be (...advanced...) searched based on text && <code> tag.

    Sorry, no I don't but you could try keyword or exact text search in addition to the Has code filter.

    A "Has code filter"? I tried to search for that. The forum search threw a server error. I tried Bing. Bing wanted me to sign in -- I am already signed in -- but said "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now."

    Microsoft is a bee hive minus the pheromones, isn't it?

    There really is nobody driving the bus, is there?
