Windows 7 Home Premium fails to Validate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hokay so I can't get my computer to update with the Windows Update, my network card (wireless) just died a week ago, I've been mailing with microsoft support wich then sendt me here so now I ask you; How can I validate my Win7 Home Premium? It is bought from a retail ACER store with preinstalled win7 only 3 months ago. I ran the diagnostics tool (picked it up from some other thread) and here are the results..

The http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate page comes up with "Validation was interrupted" ("Valideringen ble avbrutt" <- Norwegian) and thus leads me no further to solve my problem.

Is there anything I can do myself or do I have to return the PC \ Call microsoft support?

  • Can you confirm that you followed step 3 exactly?

The error you describe means that the sppsvc.exe file can not be found in the system32 folder.  But if that file was missing or in the wrong folder, there would have been indications of that in your Diagnostic Report.

I recommend trying the steps again and being sure the steps are followed exactly.

If it still doesn't work, Noel may have other suggestions for you to try, otherwise I would suggest contacting Microsoft assisted support at one of the below URLs for further assistance.

It looks like your Licensing Store has become corrupted
Try the below steps to recreate the Store and its data.

    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc   (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection survive may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. It's most likely that Activation will occur automatically but you may be asked to re-enter your product key and/or to reactivate.

Once complete, reboot, then run MGADiag again, and post the new report.

This is where I think I'd best hand over to Darin Smith, our moderator/forum owner
I know what I'd like to try, but have no personal experience of doing it, and don't have a system to test it on first

    Darin?

  • I went over the steps again just to make sure I did them correct - and the same results come up.

From this point on I'm tempted to a) try a reinstall of win7 or b) hand it back to the shop. The only thing I fear with that is the extreme waiting time and possability of additional costs for me.

Also - I have contacted through that email form (it was what I did first) and the agent referred me to this forum. It seems however that she has some ideas for me to try out so going to see where that leads but eventually I suspect I'm going to have to reinstall either way :/

(On a sidenote my background has died now and a nice little notification has popped up saying "This copy of Windows 7 is not genuine". Merry christmas! ;P )

That would almost certainly be the fastest solution - it'll take me a few days to try and replicate the problem on a machine, and I daresay it could take a while using MS support to troubleshoot it, if they don't already have an off-the-shelf solution on test.
