  • So, my office was using live mesh and recently we switched to Live Sync since Mesh will be going away, however, Live Sync doesn't provide me the functionality Mesh did.

In my office houses two companies with one CEO, the CEO needs access to all folders of Company A and Company B.  However, in Company A, not everyone needs access to all folders.  Our HR department needs access to the folders that have employee data, but our Marketing department does not, and should not see those confidential documents.  And so on.  With Mesh, our CEO would choose which folders to share with whom in Company A, and the same in Company B.  Mind you, some employees (in addition to our CEO) technically work for both companies, so they need access to some folders in A and in B.

Live Sync doesn't work for us, because all our computers are logged into the system with the same ID, but the moment you share a folder, say the confidential folder, with the appropriate computer, all other computers can see it and choose to sync it to their computers.

Finally, the ability to access the cloud from anywhere was great.

Is there an alternative to Live Mesh that can give me the selective sync/sharing I need within a single company and across both, as well as the cloud storage/access? Thanks!

  • Each computer should be using a unique LiveID for Live Sync and the "owner" of the folders should configure sharing of folders to each LiveID as desired. Alternatively, you can use a LiveID per department for Live Sync.

I'm not sure how you were using Live Mesh, but the same would have been true for your scenario where you wish to control how to share the folders being synchronized.
