Speed up a sync: use the LAN!

I have a suggestion for the Live Mesh team which I posted here:Here's the summary:
I installed Live Mesh on a new computer and I noticed that it downloads all of my files from its server through my Internet connection.
I have two other computers in the same LAN with the same files.
Instead of using my (slow) Internet connection to download the files copy the file to the new live mesh installation using a peer-to-peer connection to another live mesh client running in the same LAN.I thought I'd post it here as well - vote for it if you feel this would be useful.Monday, February 22, 2010 9:57 PM

That is already how Live Mesh works - or should work. It will sync P2P if that path is available. There have, however, been other reports of the sync going to the Live Desktop and from the Live Desktop, and not using P2P. You may want to select to not sync a folder with the Live Desktop, which forces the transfer to only be P2P.

What if I want to sync the folder with the Live Desktop, but if a another live mesh client is on the LAN and the file is updated - should the transfer be P2P?That's not what I'm seeing - the live mesh client is taking forever to sync since it is going to the cloud to download my files. Are you saying this is a bug and not to sync the folder with the Live Desktop is a temporary workaround?Tuesday, February 23, 2010 9:36 PM

Stephen is saying that if you don't get P2P in your setup, this is probably a bug. You should report it. See this thread for how to report bugs:

Live mesh is *supposed* to use P2P when available, but it may be a bug. If you add a file to a Mexh folder on PC#1 and that folder is synchronized with the Live Desktop and PC#2, existing on the same local LAN segment, it should upload the file to the Live Desktop and when PC#2 finds out that a change needs to be transferred over, it should get it from PC#1 rather than the Live Desktop if PC#1 is on the local LAN and is powered on and logged in.
