Windows Build 7600 Not Geniune

Question
-
Hello - I purchased a new laptop from HP with windows 7 upgrade to come. The win 7 upgrade arrived from HP and I installed it with no problem. Ran perfectly for about 6 months then I began seeing "windows build 7600 not geniune". I knew that HP would not send me a bootleg copy of win 7, so I ignored it for a while until it became really annoying, then did research and tried the slui.exe 4 to register over the phone. Registered fine or so it seemed...then I got pop up again after attempting to run windows updates. Went through the phone registration again and said my copy was legit, then attempted the windows updates again...after doing an update my PC went belly up (nothing but black screen after several tries at recovery) and so I had to email HP and get recovery disks to reset back to factory settings (Vista). Now I'm hesitant to upgrade to Windows 7 with the HP disks. Any suggestions on how to get MS to recognize that this is a legit upgrade? Thanks in advance.Saturday, March 26, 2011 8:45 PM

Ok here you go...remember I haven't attempted win 7 upgrade (again) since reset to factory...so it is still vista. I have COA and serial # for the windows 7 upgrade from hp too.

There is no way to determine legitimacy without first installing the upgrade. There is no reason not to do so since you are not getting an error condition with Vista. Many things can cause a non-genuine message besides a non-genuine license, such as a corrupted license store so go ahead and upgrade. After you upgrade you should be able to activate OK if activation is required.
